Tuesday’s Torch 589

May 26, 2020

Tonight I asked my kids what I should talk about in the  torch and they both pretty quickly came up with the topic of “Love”.  They are truly wonderful kids and such a great blessing from God for which I am eternally grateful.  So I pondered the suggestion a little bit and decided to share the following verses. Mark 12:30-31.

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”

These verses cover the two great commandments.  I think that the order they are given is very important.  First and foremost we are to love the Lord our God. As we strive to keep this commandment and as we love God, it will make keeping the second of these great commandments even easier.

We are told elsewhere in the New Testament that if we love the Lord we will feed his sheep.  His sheep and our neighbors are absolutely one and the same.  We are also told that if we love him we will keep his commandments.

Its hard to love everyone.  I’m still working on that as I’m sure we all are.  The love of God is so incomprehensible to us because as we live and go through trials we will undoubtedly deal with those who treat us in ways that don’t quite line up with love. In these times perhaps we should reflect back on how much we love the Lord and remember him.  As we think about the sacrifice he made for us, yes even for whoever it was that has seemingly or absolutely has done us wrong, maybe it will make keeping this second commandment even a tiny bit easier.  Every little bit helps, right?

Brothers and sisters, it is my hope that we can all grow closer to God and learn to love him more fully.  I pray that we may love one another with more fullness as well.  It’s not always easy.  But the things that are right are quite often the hardest things to do.  But choosing the right and keeping the commandments is always and forever going to be best.  And I share this message in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Tuesdays Torch has been viewed in countries all across the globe through our website and social media. We pray the words of every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please share Tuesdays Torch and encourage others with it. To partner with Tuesdays Torch and help expand our reach please contact us. We pray the Lord will touch our readers. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk about what He did and is still doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God. Please share testimonies, feedback or encouraging words by email at: tuesdaystorch@gmail.comwe enjoy hearing from you. No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
