Tuesday’s Torch 581
March 31, 2020
This message will be a relatively brief one. Recently I’ve spent a little bit of time playing a couple games on my phone that my nephews wanted to play with me. One is one of those where you build your kingdom and fortify it with all manner of defenses and weaponry.
So as I’ve wasted some time playing the game, when you are attacked, you can watch the attacker attempt to destroy your castle. This allows you to make the necessary changes to better defend against attacks.
In life, we are often attacked in many ways. The adversary has thousands of years of practice to know how to best trick us, confuse us, manipulate us and ultimately control us. Many of us are aware of the weaknesses which so easily beset us. Others can be seemingly oblivious to the attacks. So how do we defend ourselves?
In Ephesians 6 we are given the following instructions:
“11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”
I could go through each of those piece by piece and discuss how important they all are but I’m not going to do that at this time. I would like to challenge us all however to look through those verses this week and truly apply them to ourselves and see how we can more fully equip ourselves with the whole armor of God!
I would like to focus briefly on the advice given there at the end of the verses I quoted. To pray in the spirit and to watch with all perseverance. We are to continue to pray and how do we best pray “in the spirit“? Well, we are to live as righteously as possible. We are to work on all of our weaknesses and our faults and anything that is standing in the way of our ability to feel and be led by the Holy Ghost! And as we do that, the connection we feel while praying and the guidance we receive will be strengthened, I know that’s true because I have felt it!
The hardest part? Perseverance. It is so very difficult when once we have prayed, many times having received promptings, and then have to patiently wait, and continue to do all that we must do. But what I’ve begun to learn is that waiting, especially waiting upon the Lord, it’s not a passive thing. While we wait, we should be dedicated and focused. We can be more fully arming ourselves with that whole armor of God. We can learn more truth and practice more faith, we can develop more spirituality and learn more from the scriptures!
God doesn’t want us to just spend our lives waiting for some blessing to happen for us. He wants us to actively strive to improve and become stronger. Brothers and sisters, now is a time where most of us are home a lot more, many of us are idle. Some of us are wasting a lot of time. Maybe playing silly games on our phones? Hahaha. Clearly I’m guilty of that to an extent, but let us find the time to be fully equipped for the battles that require us to stay vigilant in order to win. Let us study the scriptures and find ways to strengthen ourselves and our families. Let us learn and grow and be able to withstand the lies and attacks of Satan who seeks our misery and destruction. Let us seek out our Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ who stand ready, willing and able to save us and strengthen us, no matter where we now find ourselves!
May God bless each of us with an extra outpouring of his Spirit to help us make the changes we need to make, to strengthen ourselves in the ways we need to be strengthened, and to be able to be patient, but actively patient! That is my hope and my prayer for each of us at this time. And I leave these things with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk about what He did and is still doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God.
