Tuesday’s Torch 575

February 18, 2020

Too often we doubt God. Now usually it isn’t that we don’t think he can do a thing, it’s that we know he can, or he could, but we think that he won’t for us. So we sometimes pray to just get by and just survive our trials.

Some of us may be praying to just pass a test or a class, to just do an ok job at work, to manage an addiction.  There are many ways where we are scared to ask God for the best because we think that there is some limitation. Usually a limitation of what we deserve, a limitation to what we mistakenly feel is our low worth.  But God can help us do so much more.

Now I’m not preaching a prosperity Gospel that says absolutely everything we do is gonna turn to gold.  But I am saying that if we trust God and give him the chance to fully bless our efforts, He will make all things possible!

I would like to use the following verses and this interaction with the Savior as an example.  In Luke 9:11-17:

“11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.

12 And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place.

13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.

14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.

15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.

16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.

17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.”

Now, I want us to imagine this.  That’s a lot of people and a small amount of food to begin with.  And not only did God bless them, but even after all had eaten and were full, twelve baskets worth of food was left over!  God can exceed our basic needs.  He has extra.  He shows it and has proven it time and again.

So when you pray and you are working hard and striving for something. Don’t seek to just get by, to just survive. Don’t strive to pass that test, strive and pray to ace it!  Don’t just seek to make it through and do an ok job at work, seek to excel and impress your boss and get a raise or promotion.

Don’t merely seek to manage an addiction or personal weakness, seek and pray to eradicate it!  Overcome it, completely and absolutely.  Make that weakness become a thing of the past to be replaced with a strength!   I’ve seen it happen, it can happen because God isn’t just sitting there waiting to give us just enough to scrape by.  He is looking to help us succeed and excel!  But we have to trust Him.  We have to allow him to work with us and through us.

Now there will be times when we just make it through, when we might barely scrape by.  But I know that often, very often, we can end up with twelve baskets worth of extras.  We are given the help needed to win! Not just hobble to the finish line.

Now this is hard.  Especially as we struggle or we really want something and righteously seek it, it can be hard to work for and pray for something that may seem out of reach or impossible.  Just a couple days ago I received an increase in hope for a righteous blessing I have sought and prayed for with every fiber of my being.  I’m not gonna share what it is here, and it hasn’t happened yet.  And it may or may not.  But I know that God can pour out that blessing in abundance!  And it would be more than enough.  Did God know how much bread and fish it would have taken to feed the multitude just enough that they would all be full?  Yes, yes he did!  But He sent more!  Much much more!

And He can do the same for us.  As for me, I’m gonna make sure my baskets are ready. And I am going to keep working hard and do my part to make it happen!  And when that day comes and the blessing arrives! I will be ready and I pray that you will be too!

Our God is great! And He is a God of more than enough! Far more!  I know that from experience, from the battles and victories He has helped me win!  And there are more to come.  And I am not patting myself on the back.  Because I would fail on my own.  And If I seem to be bragging, I am bragging, I am bragging about my Father in Heaven, and I am bragging about my Savior Jesus Christ.  They make all things possible!  And that, my dear Brothers and Sisters, is the truth.  And I say these things in the name that is more than enough, even the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Every Tuesday we talk about what He did and is still doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God. Please share testimonies, feedback or encouraging words by email at: tuesdaystorch@gmail.comwe enjoy hearing from you. No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
