Tuesday’s Torch 531

April 9, 2019

Many of us are tired. We’ve been traveling around with a weight on our shoulders. Maybe a pain in our hearts. Carrying grief that is hard to bear. Perhaps something really eating and gnawing at us. Something we wish we could do but see no way to accomplish it.  Is that a fair guess?  I know for me it isn’t a stretch at all to say that life is hard and I want things to improve and change but it’s so challenging and difficult.  How do I continue when I just want to crawl inside a hole and come out when difficulty is past?

Well. This is where the goodness of the Gospel comes in. The blessing of the scriptures can truly help.  The words of Christ as recorded in the Bible state the following:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Who of us is heavy laden?  Obviously I can’t hear your answer but I feel like many if not most of us fit that description. Are you tired, frustrated, hurting?  Turn to Jesus Christ.

First off let’s get a proper image of exactly what a yoke is. When you wish to have a couple animals pull a plow or a cart. The yoke is a wooden crosspiece that you place over the neck of two animals so that they can pull as a team, to share the load one with another.  So needless to say if you wish to be yoked to another, who better than the Savior?

So as He is saying to take his yoke, he is basically saying “join me and I’ll make this task easier for you, I’ll help you! I will work along side you.”   The amazing thing is that he has already borne all of our difficulties through the Atonement. So as we take his yoke upon us, the hardest part of the work is being and has been done by him. Let him ease the burden.

Another important thing here is that He invites us to learn of him. That He is meek and lowly in heart.  Be humble. Be meek. Learn about the Savior. Emulate him.  This is true strength. As we strive to align our path with Christ, we will find that those things once considered impossible, aren’t just possible, but often times are downright a certainty.  What can stand in your way when yoked with Jesus Christ?

Are you exhausted? Is your soul weary? Mine is. I’m not ashamed to say that I am straight up worn out. I’ve been struggling. I’ve been suffering anguish down to my core?  Would I like a little rest for my soul? Oh wow that sounds nice. So that promise we are given that as we yoke ourselves to the Savior and become more like him, we can receive rest for our souls, what a promise!!  Sounds mighty nice.  Doesn’t it?

It’s time for action brothers and sisters. Let us all strive to emulate the Savior. Let us all embrace the offer he extends to us. If we are willing to yoke ourselves to the Savior he is willing to carry the weight for us. But when you’re yoked together with one so strong, you will go where he wants you to go.

So as we are deciding what to do: If you wish to receive help, you would emphatically express to the Lord your willingness to join with him and you will say to the Lord, “I’ll go where you want me to go!”

Choose the right. Do what is right. Even if it seems hard. God knows it’s hard. God knows it is impossible to do on our own. That’s why he sent his Son!  We must turn to him. It is the only way for true and everlasting happiness. Anything we try to do on our own or in our own way will fall short, it will fail. But with the help of the Son of God, not only can we do it, but we will do it.

Right there in his scriptures is the promise.  Don’t take my word for it?  Don’t trust in me, I’m just sharing his message. Jesus Christ is the one who saves, the only one who saves us. It is in him that we must place our trust. He will pull us through whatever we find ourselves caught up in and weighed down by.

God is great. The Savior is real. As we rely on him, our burdens will be lifted, our pains will be eased, and the mountains that seem to be standing in the way, they will be moved.  They will crumble to the sea. And that is the truth. And I share that truth in the sacred name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

We pray the Lord will touch our readers. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk about what He did and is still doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God. Please share testimonies, feedback or encouraging words by email at: tuesdaystorch@gmail.comwe enjoy hearing from you. No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
