Tuesday’s Torch 524

Tuesday’s Torch 524

February 19, 2019

I would like to discuss something that each of us must face during this mortal journey that we call life. Tribulation. Now I don’t just want to discuss tribulation so that I can say the word tribulation a lot of times. Even though tribulation affects us so often in our lives that tribulation could be mentioned and tribulation could be spoken frequently. The term tribulation is often times mentioned in connection with the word trials.

When things get tough in life and we are going through our own challenges and struggles. How can we continue. How do we make it? I need to know as much as you. I’m having a terrible time of dealing with mine, but the following verses might help us all. First of all, what do we do? Deuteronomy 4:30-31 says that;

“When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;

(For the Lord thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.)”

So plucked directly out of that verse we are told to turn to God, and be obedient unto his voice. While typing this, autocorrect thinks that we should turn to Godzilla but as fun as that might be, it won’t really help us overcome tribulation. Hey, there’s that word again.

It is worth mentioning that in order to be obedient to his word we must hear his word. Many people think that if they merely pray, they can receive all the answers they need. But I would like to point out that is just one method of seeking answers. It would be like a dancer only knowing one dance move? There’s only so many times you can bust out the cabbage patch before people get tired of it. Well, pretty much once, but as I was saying. Seeking the voice of the Lord only through prayer prevents us from the guidance we can learn by serious study of the scriptures, by pondering, by seeking the guidance of inspired leaders. And when we receive righteous guidance, act on it. If it is not righteous it is not of God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 states:

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.

Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

One of the amazing blessings that come to us as we overcome our tribulations and weaknesses is the ability to then help others. In this way we can provide the type of comfort that God provides to us.

We have now briefly discussed tribulation, seeking guidance, comfort, cheesy dance moves, helping others and a few other things. What makes this all possible? Why do I mention these things this week? Why do I mention them on a week that has been a very difficult struggle for me? I was worried that I would have a hard time writing this week. But according to the Savior, here is why we need these words:

John 16:33 says

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

To echo messages from weeks past. Jesus Christ makes all things possible. His sacrifice on our behalf makes it possible to overcome trials, tribulations, challenges, struggles and pains. It can free us from addiction, guilt, shame, sin and the spiritual death that accompanies it. Turn to the Savior in love, in reverence, in patience, in meekness and in faith. I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

We pray the Lord will touch our readers. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk about what He did and is still doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God. Please share testimonies, feedback or encouraging words by email at: tuesdaystorch@gmail.comwe enjoy hearing from you. No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
