Tuesday’s Torch

From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. (Ephesians 4:16)

Valentines weekend 2016 was the most epic that Sammy and I have had it will be hard to beat. I bought her a purple and white gold key to my heart, we got dressed up for a banquet and topped it all off with a Garth Brooks show. The love of God compels us much like we were captivated during that concert. We should urgently seek Him because of His love and our desire to become more like Christ. Toward the end of March when the weather started to get warm one of Sammy’s best friends Kadie came to spend the day with her. I was gone at an appointment when she got there so they had to wait to use the van. When I got there they were outside and ready to go so I made my way out of my spot on the passenger side of the van. When I got out they invited me to go with them. I thought about it and decided it would be fun to have a lovely date with my wife and her bestie. After getting the keys from mom Sammy and I got loaded into the van, her in passenger side and me in the back. It only works that way because she cannot fit behind my chair to get into the van if I sit upfront. I ate a little something after my appointment but they were hungry so we started our date with lupper (too late for lunch but not yet supper) at Mellow Mushroom. When we got there we ordered sodas, a pepperoni, mushroom and bacon pizza. I wasn’t hungry but it looked good so I ate a piece. After finishing dinner we went on a little browsing/shopping spree at the strip mall. At World Market they bought matching friendship scarves and Kadie bought a sun hat. The next store we went to was Palmetto Moon because Sammy loves that store. She bought a few Clemson Tiger shirts and some others but was anoyed that all the shirts with big pictures have them on the back where no one can see them because of the wheelchair. Finally we ended up going into Ross to see if we could find some more things for decorating the house. We found this little pallet with a quote on it that looked like it’d hang perfectly over the big ugly security box we cannot get rid of. When we brought it home sure enough it was a perfect fit. That was enough shopping for us so we left, put in some gas and went to the house.

Kadie and her husband RG have been great friends to me and Sammy. They cleaned up our yard and extended the front patio with pavers when we first moved in our house. Helping to support each other is a big part of why we choose to have friends and a reason why they chose us. If friends were not sometimes there when we needed them we probably wouldn’t have them or would feel unbalanced in the relationship. This had been the first time Kadie was able to see us in a while because of studying for the bar exam so we supported her by not demanding her time when she had none to give. To be a good friend as a believer we are the supporting ligaments of one another. We build each other up by growing in love together so that we can do the work of the Lord. We must be completely humble, gentle and patient in bearing with one another in love; this helps bring unity of Spirit between us through the bond of peace (Eph 4:2-3). For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love (2 Pt 1:5-7). Our affection should be mutual between us; we should feel fond about and like one another. We must make an effort to do what leads to peace, affection and mutual edification (Rom 14:19). Keeping up with all of this does not make being a friend easy. Many people maybe there for us when disaster comes but ultimately the Lord is our support (2 Sm 22:19). Even when we feel like our feet are slipping we can be sure that His unfailing love will be our support (Ps 94:18). On the day of our date Sammy and I enjoyed our friend Kadie and her support to us. The Lord is support for us at all times He is the ultimate friend we can have.

Lord I thank you for the support system you have set up in my life and for the body we are helping to support more and more as our love grows for one another. Help us to see Lord that even when it feels as if no one is there that you are all the support we really need. Help us to do the best we can to do what leads to peace and the edification others. Show us how to be humble, gentle, patient and loving to have unity of Spirit and a bond of peace in our lives. Remind us God we are part of your body so that we will make the effort to grow in godly character and mutual love for one another. In Jesus Name, Amen

We pray the Lord will touch our readers. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk about what He did and is still doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God. Please share testimonies, feedback or encouraging words by email at: tuesdaystorch@gmail.com we enjoy hearing from you. No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
