Your mouth is like the best wine. May the wine go straight to my beloved, flowing gently over lips and teeth. (Song of Songs 7:9)
The days leading up to our wedding were very busy with family and activities to prepare for our big day. The evening before we got married we met the wedding party at our location to have a rehersal so everyone would play their proper role the following day around four o’clock. Just like we had to practice for that day we need to practice righteous living so that we can be pleasing to God and lead others to Him. For the longest time before our wedding we didn’t even know where we were having it. We looked at several places early in our engagement but none of them were what we wanted within budget. We put this on hold far longer than every recommendation we read about. No one gets the perfect wedding venue on the desired date unless it is six months to a year ahead of time. Four months before our date we still had no venue and thought we’d be doing it in someone’s yard. A few weeks before we planned to send out invitations Sammy was reading about a wedding venue reopening in Summerville. As soon as she read about it she contacted the new tenant and set up a time to meet with her. It seemed like this place was opened just for us; we were the first wedding on their books. The Summerhouse is a beautifully restored home in Summerville. It was just under 1500 dollars and that included our beautiful cake. Only six months after our wedding the business shut down again. It was the perfect place for to do the wedding and reception. Laura Sammy’s sister in law was our wedding planner, her and her sisters cooked all the food for the rehearsal dinner and wedding. We had drinks and appetizers between ceremony and reception while we were taking pictures. Dinner was pork tenderloin, green beans and mashed potatoes we also had a limited open bar for wedding guests. On the day of the wedding I showed up at the wrong time, Sammy was supposed to get there first so she could be inside while I was waiting on the front porch. I got there early but she was late so she just waited in the van until I went inside.
Before we all started walking in to our songs someone asked if I had the rings. I knew they were my responsibility but we discussed this after the rehearsal and since they were in Sammy’s room and she was getting ready there she would bring them. In all the excitement they got left but Sammy’s step brother Cody came to the rescue and went to the house to get them. This got things started about a half hour late but not a total tragedy. We all made it down the aisle just like we practiced. Sammy was the most beautiful bride I had ever seen it was like she was floating on a puffy white cloud. After I got past the people standing in my view I saw my wife and it brought a tear to my eyes. Our pastor Jenn gave us a traditional service but we wrote our own vows since we love each other so much. We presented rings to one another for a never ending symbol of our love. We lit a unity candle together with a little help from our wedding party while Katie one of the bridesmaids played guitar and sang A Living Prayer in the style of Alison Krauss. Last but not least we called the kiss crew to assist in me tasting the best wine, the lips of my bride. All of our guests would say this was one of the best weddings they had ever been to there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. The dinner, reception, dance, cake and speeches all came at us fast but it was everything we dreamed it would be. God tells us that he will teach us what is best and direct us in the way we should go (Is 48:17). Paul’s prayer to the Philippines is that our love would abound more in knowledge and understanding so we may discern from Him what is best, pure and blameless (Phil 1:9-10). What God wants is for us to do our best to have His approval, to be a hard worker and to correctly handle the word of God which we have learned (2 Tim 2:15). Ultimately God brought us together and our wedding day was the best day of our lives.
Lord I pray that we would always be open to your teaching and guidance so that we may learn what is best for our lives. Help us to understand God that the best wine flows from your mouth because your words change everything. I ask that we would love the knowledge and insight that comes from you so that we may discern what is best. Give us a deep desire to be pure and blameless until the coming of Christ so that we would always give our best to you. I pray that we would work hard and correctly handle your word of truth. In Jesus name, Amen.

All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk about what He did and is still doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God.
