He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” (Luke 8:21)

We had some good times with the best of our friends to celebrate the end our single lives and lead us into this new chapter. There are times in life for sadness but not without being followed by times of great joy. We live a life of celebrating the victories when we celebrate the Lord and include Him in our lives. The next thing on our agenda after the appropriate individual parties was the week of the wedding. There are many things to be done in the days and hours leading up to the big event. There’s family to welcome into town, introductions to be made, clothes to be picked up, tried on and fitted. I got into town four days before the wedding and we had family come in from out of town each of those days. The day I got there we were waiting on Sammy’s aunt and uncle to get there from Florida. The next day we checked to be sure we knew where the rings were so we wouldn’t forget them on the wedding day. Later while her family was we went and picked up my tuxedo at the mall. On Thursday my dad got into town from Tennessee so he could meet Sammy and her family for the first time. When he and his wife got in we went out for a seafood dinner before going to Perry and Darlene’s house that evening for introductions. The next day my best man, his wife and daughter, our flower girl got to the hotel we were at. Shortly after they arrived family and friends from Minnesota and Wisconsin showed up. That night was the rehersal and dinner party for wedding participants and all out of town guests. There were at least 30 people just at the rehersal dinner on the patio at her dad’s house. Before that we met at The Summerhouse in Summerville to practice so it would be familiar on wedding day. We all marched to our appropriate songs, talked to the minister and even had a practice kiss since we needed help to accomplish it. We had lasagna, bread, salad and dessert with wine, beer, sweet tea, water and soda for drinks. After the party started one of Sammy’s other aunts got there on the train from Virginia. It was a great time hanging out with the people nearest and dearest to our hearts and we were filled with joy knowing they were there to share this one special day with us.

That night I gave a special gift to my wife to be; it was a jar of sweet love quotes one a day for 31 days. After this it was getting late and we wanted to rest so we could get ready for the next day. It was hard to part but I didn’t want to see her after midnight or have any bad luck that might mess up our dream come true. That is why practicing is important so that later we can get it right. When we hear the word of the Lord we are to put them into practice. If we do we are like the builder who built his house on the rock for a firm foundation. By not practicing His words we are a foolish builder who built on the sand so that when floods came it was all washed away (Lk 6:47-49). If we put the word of God to practice in our lives we are becoming part of the family with Christ. Here we find a few hints to how we can practice doing His word. We must have sincere love. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor others above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer (Rom 12:9-13). Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. A big key in practicing His word is the way we treat others in the world around us. When we have learned what we can our lives should be a model to others so they can see what we do and put practice it (Phil 4:9). We can believe all the knowledge of the world and do it or we can train ourselves to be godly (1 Tim 4:7). What we practice most is what we mostly become. All scripture comes from God it is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that we may be completely ready to do every good work (2 Tim 3:16-17). After the wedding rehersal we were trained and ready for the ceremony that would forever change our lives for the better.

Lord we ask that we would be like your closest family members by helping us to put your word to practice in our lives. Give us the burning desire not only to study scripture but to live it in our daily lives so that we will be an example to them on what it means to practice righteousness. Help us to love everything good and turn our backs on the works of evil in this world. Help us to show love and practice hospitality by honoring others above our selves. Put us in training God for righteousness so that at all times we will be ready to do good works. In Jesus name, Amen.

We pray the Lord will touch our readers. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk about what He did and is still doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God. Please share testimonies, feedback or encouraging words by email at: tuesdaystorch@gmail.com we enjoy hearing from you. No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
