Praise be to the Lord, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege. (Psalm 31:21)
As I went to see Sammy on Valentine’s Day I looked around at the snow and realized I was finally willing to leave comfortable to chase the desires of my heart. Before leaving Summerville that weekend we went to church together and I very much decided that day that we needed to make it so we could be in the same tribe. After lunch at Zaxbys it was time for us to part ways again. It was always sad for us to separate but these trips to Summerville were a way to make long distance work for us. As soon as we could we planned a March date so that we wouldn’t get used to missing one another. Exactly a month from our sad goodbye we planned to meet again in Columbia at Five Guys for late lunch and a movie. We ate fast so we could make it to the movie theater where we decided to see 3 Days to Kill. Kevin Costner plays a dying CIA agent who tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter during his time off. After promising no more working he is offered an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment. The movie was alright but ultimately it didn’t matter what we watched because we were there to spend time with eachother. After the movie we had a few minutes to make small talk while our helpers used the bathroom. When we went outside we took a quick picture right before it started to rain and we had to say a fast and sad farewell. In March we were waiting and saving money for the next time we could stay in Summerville. At the end of the month Sammy told me about a Tom Conlon concert she was going to at a coffee in her town. When she told me about it I told her that I wish I could be there too. That Sunday I wanted to go to the concert but thought it’d be to much in one day. After hearing a message at church about staying full of God for our next assignment, I was inspired to take a next step for my future. I asked mom to bring me to the concert so I could surprise Sammy and show her my love was real.
When we got to Summerville we went to the coffee shop early and ate some food in the van that we picked up on the way. When Sammy arrived we watched her pull in, get out of the van and go inside with her friend Sandy. She wasn’t expecting me to be there so she would have never been looking for my van. After she got settled I got unloaded and started down the sidewalk toward the door. Inside the coffee shop Sammy’s friend Friar told her that he saw someone coming and she was like lots of people are coming. He said no you don’t understand SOMEONE is coming! Right then is when I came through the door and she really liked that I was that someone. She was so surprised it choked her up and she couldn’t speak until her friend got some water for her to drink. We got to talk for a few minutes before the concert began but during the show I was sitting behind her so we couldn’t say much. It was all good though because showing up for her was an expression of my love to her and three hours together was worth six hours of travel. As I remember expressions of my love I thank the Lord for the wonders of His love showing up for me when I needed Him most. We should take the time to stop and consider the wonders of God (Job 37:14). He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted (Job 5:9). The Lord will show us the wonders of His great love, He will save with His right hand all who take refuge in Him from their foes (Ps. 17:7). When in love just to experience them is a wonder this is how we should feel about the Lord for the great things He has done. The Father loved Jesus His Son and showed Him what He does. He showed Jesus greater works so that we would be amazed and believe in them (Jn. 5:20). Bringing Sammy and me together was a great work He did for us; we have been good medicine for eachother. We enjoyed songs about friends, love and the Lord as we let our love grow. After a little conversation and a few pictures it was time for bittersweet goodbyes to conclude our March dates.
Lord we thank you for the love we have been able to experience in our lives. We only know how to love you or anyone else because you first loved us. Help us to remember the wonderful ways you have touched our lives and saved us from whatever foes we are facing. You know our struggles because your son came to us and lived a hard life so that we would see you in Him and He would sacrifice His life so that our lives might be better. We thank you God for loving us enough so that we would know how to love one another. In Jesus name, Amen.

The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God.
