For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. (1 Peter 1:23)

When I saw Jesus to show my family He is real we were just starting out at a new church in Brooklyn Park, MN. Living Word Christian Center started out meeting at a community college until they rented some warehouse space and turned it into a church. This was the church my parents were members of so it mostly formed my spiritual perspective until I was a teen. We were among some of the first families to join Living Word. In our ten or so years attending there the church grew from a few hundred to a few thousand people. At times I felt like my family was part of the inner core of founding members but as we grew sometimes I felt like an outsider. My dad was an usher and my mom was the leader of a women’s prayer group so we were known at church. Living Word is a faith based evangelical non-denominational church so healing, miracles, tongues, spiritual gifts, supernatural provision, signs and wonders were a big part of their doctrine. These things were and still are part of my belief system since we serve a God of impossible. Being “cripple” brought me plenty of attention and looks when I showed up week after week seemingly untouched by the miraculous. It wasn’t because we weren’t believing, praying or doing everything we learned to do. All I can say is we learned to trust God and how to seek Him through seemingly unmovable mountains. Then and now we have seen increasingly small miracles of good health in spite of Muscular Dystrophy, extended life, financial breakthroughs and many divine appointments. No church or children’s ministry can do everything perfect and they didn’t but we learn and grow together. Pastors Mac and Lynn Hammond had a vision for people to learn God as the living word who can change the lives of those who trust in Him and countless people have been touched through their ministry.

We are born again so we are made to be imperishable through the living and enduring word of God. His word is living so much so that by His words we have eternal life. The Word was with God in the beginning because it was God. He was there in the beginning with God. Through Him all things have been made and without Him nothing in creation would be created (Jn 1:1-3). Jesus, the Living Word spoke and everything in all the universe came into being. Everything that has life and breathe in it was made alive because of Jesus. When we know God makes life we can see Him as big enough to have creative solutions for all our needs. The words Moses received from the angel on Mount Sinai in the wilderness were living words for him to pass onto the people (Acts 7:37-38). What the Lord showed Israel in the wilderness was always for their own good. It was so they could keep order, remain healthy, happy and holy onto the Lord. What God requires is never to make our lives miserable it is to help us and keep us from being harmful to ourselves. When we receive the word of God it is not accepted as human word but as God’s word which is at work in us who believe (1 Thes. 2:13). Gods living word is at work in us. It is a lamp for our feet, a light onto our path. We have chosen to follow Him and to do what is right. We have suffered much but the Lord preserves our life according to His word (Ps. 119:105-107). The word of God is alive and active it can penetrate to the depth of our spirit, soul and body; it judges thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Heb. 4:12). When God speaks it brings life to whatever He is speaking to and above all else I learned this at Living Word.

It is sometimes hard to see His words bring life when the words surrounding us seem more like negativity, problems, stress and death. If we will make His words our focus when we are faced with nothing but troubles we will find life in them. Remember life is not always easy it does have struggles and how we handle them says a lot about the words we let influence us. Every word spoken to us we can reject or accept and sometimes the words unspoken are the words we should be listening to instead. Remember the Lord most often speaks in a still small voice.

Lord help us to hear your word that brings life to all things and not listen to the words that could destroy who you are in us. Remind us Lord of how you see us differently than how we see ourselves. We reject the negative words we have listed to that were meant for our destruction and accept every word from the mouth of God spoken to build us up and give us life. Help our hearing to be fine-tuned to your words until we only hear what heaven is saying to us. In Jesus name, Amen.

Tuesdays Torch has been viewed in countries all across the globe through our website and social media. We pray the words of every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please share Tuesdays Torch and encourage others with it. To partner with Tuesdays Torch and help expand our reach please contact us. We pray the Lord will touch our readers. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk about what He did and is still doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will invite the Lord into their lives by asking Him to forgive their sins and believing that He is the Son of God. Please share testimonies, feedback or encouraging words by email at: tuesdaystorch@gmail.com we enjoy hearing from you. No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
