Tuesday’s Torch

By: Tim Sader

One thing I ask the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. (Psalm 27:4)

Last week we learned that we are made alive in our bodies by Christ and He has resurrected us with Him when He beat death and the grave. Our song was Resurrecting by Elevation Worship. There is something we should seek above everything and that thing is for us dwell in the Lords house for all our days so we can enjoy His beauty and seek Him in His temple. Our bodies are temples of Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). Today our song will be One Thing Remains by Jesus Culture. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/6_KXsMCJgBQ or search for it on YouTube. Higher than the mountains that we face and stronger than the power of the grave. A constant through the trials and the changes in our lives. One Thing Remains; only one thing is left. The love of God never fails, it never gives up and never runs out on us. We enter the gates of Gods house with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; we give thanks to Him and praise His name. The Lord is good and His love for us lasts forever; for all generations He is faithful (Psalm 100:4-5). To dwell in Gods house we need to know who God is because often we see Him how we think He is or as some kind universal enforcement officer waiting with lightning if we screw up. This is not God; He is good, loves each of us forever and is always faithful. To get close to Him we should be thankful for what He has done and praise Him for who He really is. God is beautiful and nothing compares to Him. If our gaze is focused on Him we carry His presence with us and we will be one with Him. After we have experienced everything in this world One Thing Remains and that thing is God’s love for us. Let us not miss it by shifting our gaze onto whatever distraction it is that would take our eyes off of Him.

One thing God has plainly spoken to us and we have heard it many times; all power belongs to Him and with the Lord there is unfailing love. He rewards us all according to what we have done (Psalm 62:11-12). The choices we make in this life determine the outcome of every situation we face; it is the laws of nature that exist to keep creation in order. We have freewill to choose what we do and wrong choices are often accompanied by ill consequences that result from it. When we listen to what we have heard from the Lord we will experience more power and love in our lives. A rich young man asked how to have treasure heaven, Jesus told him to sell everything he had and give to the poor. Then He said, “come follow me (Luke 18:22).” Our treasure in heaven has something to do with what we chose to do. This was a difficult choice because the man was very rich but all those things changed his gaze and made it so he wouldn’t completely follow Christ. One thing for us to ask ourselves is did we receive the Spirit by works of the law or by believing what we heard? We cannot begin in the Spirit but try to finish with works of the flesh. Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Those of us then who have faith are children of Abraham (Galatians 3:2-7). Believing in God and listening to Him keeps us focused on Him. Even Paul near the end of his life felt he had not full taken hold of his goal. Like Paul we must not look behind us but toward God’s house and to our prize which is found in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14). My friends, God sees time differently than we do a day to Him is the same as a thousand years to us. He is not slow in keeping promises to us like we may think. Instead He is paitent, not wanting anyone to perish but for us all to repent and follow Him (2 Peter 3:8-9). One Thing Remains; after everything God loves us and wants us to achieve our goal to find Christ and make Him our focus before we perish.

Tuesday’s Torch

12/20/16

By: Tim Sader

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

Last week we learned that God wants a fire for him burning in our heart that consumes us until we appear as flames of fire. Our song was Set A Fire by Jesus Culture. Christ is King of our resurrection if we call Him Lord and believe that God raised Him first then we will be saved from death. Today our song is Resurrecting by Elevation Worship. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/gI2_yS6K9GE or search for it on YouTube. The name of God for us is victory and all praise will rise to Christ the King. In the Spirit we will rise from the ashes of defeat. The resurrected King is resurrecting us. In His name we’re made alive to declare His victory. Our resurrected King will resurrect us too. Jesus let His disciples know that when they went back into Jerusalem He would be handed over to the chief priests and teachers of the law. He would be condemned to death and handed over to the Gentiles to be flogged and crucified. On the third day however He will be raised to life (Matthew 20:18-19)! Some of the prophets raised the dead and Christ himself raised at least three we know of. What makes Christ resurection special is the fact that He Himself came back from the dead through the power God gave Him. Jesus tells us that He is the resurrection and the life. If we believe in Him we will live even if we die; and if we live believing in Him we will never die. Do we believe this (John 11:25-26)? Saying that Jesus is Lord of our lives and believing that God raised Him from the dead determines our salvation. If we believe He will raise us one day than we must believe that God raised Himself first.

We want to know Christ; yes, to know the power of His resurection and participate in His sufferings, becoming like Him in death, so somehow we may attain resurrection from the dead (Philippians 3:10-11). To know the power of resurection may mean suffering some in this life, crucifying our sinful self so that somehow we will be resurrected also. We were buried with Him through baptism into death so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of God, we to may live a new life. If we were united with Him in death like Him certainly we will be united with Him in a resurection like His (Romans 6:4-5). Christ is Resurrecting us because He took part of us and put it to death so that we could be united with Him in eternal life. We are not in the realm of the flesh but in the realm of the Spirit if the Spirit of God lives in us. If we do not have His Spirit in us we do not belong to Christ. But if we do then even though our bodies are subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in us, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to our mortal bodies because the same Spirit lives in us (Romans 8:9-11). We are being resurrected from the inside out because we have invited Christ into our lives and because His righteousness brings life to our flesh. Since we have been raised with Christ let us then set our hearts on things above where He is seated at the right hand of God. We must set our minds on things above not on worldly things. The flesh has died and our life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, appears we will appear with Him in glory. Therefore we put to death whatever belongs to our human nature; all of our sins, immortality, lusts and evil desires (Colossians 3:1-5). If Christ is Resurrecting us, the person we were before we believed in Him is dead so let us not keep living like dead men if His resurrection has brought us a new life.

Tuesday’s Torch

I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! (Luke 12:49)

Last week we learned what it looks like for us to be set free from fear and sin so that we can be servants to God. Our song was No Longer Slaves by Jonathan and Melissa Helser. The Lord has sent us His fire and He sure wishes that it would be kindled already for us all. There is a fire He will set inside of us and we should just let it burn. Our song today is Set A Fire by Jesus Culture. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/-Jzqq4B8H2Q or search for it on YouTube. The fire of God is uncontrollable, it cannot be contained or controlled and it leaves us wanting more of the Lord. The Lord told the prophet Ezekiel to set his face toward the southlands and to preach against it. God tells him to say to the southern forest that He is about to set a fire that will consume trees both dry and green. The wildfire would not be quenched and all the land north to south would see it and be scorched by it. They would know the Lord kindled it and it wouldn’t be quenched (Ezekiel 20:46-48). In some ways the Lord brought it to my attention that this prophecy had similarities to the southern wildfires that burned tens of thousands of acres in the southern United States in November 2016. I am not saying the Lord was punishing this area like He was Israel in these verses but it can be used for His goodness as a sign of His coming fire that needs to be kindled in our land. What the enemy maybe thought would only bring devastation I believe along with many ministries that these fires are a sign that a move of God is coming. This move of God will Set A Fire in that region just like the natural fires but the fire of revival will not be put out. It will only be devastating to darkness by destroying our willingness to sin and the works of the enemy so we will be on fire for Him. As this happens the nation will be scorched by it and this fire will spread across this nation and possibly around the world.

Elijah had a revelation about the fire of God and knew it would be kindled so others would see and know He is true. Outnumbered 450 to 1 he challenged the prophets of Baal to a sacrifice contest and whichever God Set A Fire to consume the sacrifice would be the people’s God. He let Baal go first; he laughed at and taunted them for most of the day and finally took his turn. Before doing anything he made sure to soak it all in water so it could not be done by human hands. Sure enough the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, wood, altar stones and soil it also licked up the water in the trench (1 Kings 18:24-38). When John was baptizing people he told them that someone was coming more powerful than him who would baptize them with the Holy Spirit and fire (Luke 3:16). Jesus came to earth so He could Set A Fire and is waiting for it to be kindled around the globe. On the day of Pentecost the first group of believers were gathered in one place the fire was set ablaze. There were rushing winds and they saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them (Acts 2:3). There are flames over our heads today, some small fires burning but His holy fire hasn’t fully been felt. He wants to Set A Fire in us so hot that we are unaffected by evil and have no desire to sin. If His word is burning in us like a fire shut up in our bones we couldn’t keep it to ourselves if we wanted to. We would grow weary and share it anyways (Jeremiah 20:9). The Lord God is a consuming fire and He wants to consume us until we are flames of fire too. When John sees the glorified Jesus His hair is bright white and His eyes were like blazing fire (Revelation 1:14). I’ve heard this description many times and have wondered why He would choose to appear this way and then it hit me. He wants to Set A Fire in us so bright so that when He sees us it reflects on Him and we can see our reflection in His eyes.

Tuesday’s Torch

By: Tim Sader

Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. (1 Peter 2:16)

Last week we learned what it means when we give our hearts to God. If we draw near Him we will keep His word fresh in us and He will equip us with everything we need to seek Him. Our song was Lord I Give You My Heart by Hillsong United. We are to live like people who are set free but not so we can do whatever evil desire is in our heart. Instead of being slaves to the world we should use our freedom to be God’s slaves. Our song today is No Longer Slaves by Jonathan and Melissa Helser. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/f8TkUMJtK5k or search for it on YouTube. He unravels us with a melody and surrounds us with a song of deliverance from our enemies. We’re no longer slaves to fear because we are children of God. He told Israel that He would walk among them and be their God and they would be His people. He brought them out of Egypt so they would no longer be slaves to them. The Lord broke the bars of their yoke so they could hold their heads high (Leviticus 26:12-13). God wants us to be free from Egypt in our lives. Egypt is different for each of us it maybe addiction, unemployment, poverty, being abused, anger, depression, anxiety, fear or grief. We are slaves to our minds, money, jobs, bosses, bills, family members, activities, traditions, culture, society and government. Whatever yoke of bondage we are under the Lord can break it so we can walk in freedom. Not so we may be evil and sin against Him but so we will choose to the Lord. He is humble and gentle; His yoke is not a heavy yoke, it is easy and it is light (Matthew 11:29-30). In Him we can find rest for our weary souls. We’re No Longer Slaves to anything that makes us weary, stressed or afraid. We are children of God, He is with us and we are His people. He set us free so we are free indeed.

Though we have never been forced slaves to another man we have willingly been slaves to something. Anyone who sins is a slave to sin. Slaves have no place in a family but a son belongs to it so if He sets us free we are free (John 8:33-36). Who we used to be until we accepted Christ died with Him when He was crucified so that we are No Longer Slaves to sin. Anyone who has died has been set free from sin (Romans 6:6-7). Since we were slaves before we must remember those who are still slaves to sin and circumstance. We must show justice and be kind to the poor, foreigners, the fatherless and widows. We need to help them out in whatever way we can to see their needs are taken care of. Since we were also slaves to sin and circumstance is why we have been commanded to help those in need (Deuteronomy 24:17-22). We must understand that whatever we offer ourselves to we become obedient slaves to it. Sin and death can be the master we obey or we can be considered righteous by obeying the Lord. We used to be slaves to sin but because we obey the patterns and teaching of God we have claimed our allegiance to Him. In the same way we were slaves to impurity and increasing wickedness let us devote ourselves as slaves of righteousness leading to holiness. Slaves to sin cannot benefit from righteousness. There was no benefit in serving sin because it results in death but now we are devoted to God so our benefit is holiness and eternal life (Romans 6:16-22). The Spirit we received has not made us slaves to fear again; it has made us adopted sons and daughters of our Father in heaven (Romans 8:15). We can live as free people because we are No Longer Slaves to fear, sin or circumstance; rather, we are children of God trying to make our Daddy happy by choosing to obey Him.
