Tuesday’s Torch

By: Tim Sader

My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. (Psalm 57:7)

Last week we discussed some of the reasons we choose to bless the lord with our praises and share Him with others. Our song was 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman. When we give our hearts to the Lord we are offering our steadfast devotion to Him. When our heart is steadfast for the Lord we will make songs of praise and sing to Him. Today our song is Lord I Give You My Heart by Hillsong United. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/QiaLyjFYhnY or search for it on YouTube. It is our desire to honor the Lord; with our whole heart we worship Him. With everything that is in us we give Him praise and all that we adore is in Him. We give Him our heart and soul; we live our lives for Him alone. With every breath we take when we are awake Lord, have your way in us. When we tell the Lord I Give You My Heart we must be willing to be all in for Him. When our heart beacons us to seek the Lord it is Him we should seek (Psalm 27:8). Seeking Him is learning to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and strength. To do this we keep His commandments; they will always be on our heart to follow. We will teach them to our children, talk about them at home and in public from sun up until it goes down. His word will be like a symbol on our hand and a headband for our heads. We will write them where it can be seen so we can always remember them (Deuteronomy 6:5-9). Seeking the Lord is more than just looking for Him, it means we are willing to learn from Him by keeping His word fresh in our hearts and minds. Often times we say Lord I Give You My Heart but I know that most of us are holding back because we are afraid to let go of the control we think we have.

The Lord is our strength and shield if our heart trusts in Him, He helps us. Our heart will leap for joy and we will praise Him with our songs (Psalm 28:7). As we seek the Lord we find out that we can rely on Him when we call out for Him to help us. We are grateful because He is our strong tower. As we find our shelter in Him we learn the ways of the Lord. We learn to see how He sees so we may follow Him until the end. We gain understanding so we can keep His commandments and obey Him with all our heart. He will direct us down the path of righteousness so we may find delight (Psalm 119:33-35). If we give our heart to Him it will bring delight into our lives and there is no reason to be afraid of that. If we belong to Him by giving our heart to Him we will find delight in it (Proverbs 23:26). When we become partners with the Lord following Him will not be difficult; we will learn to enjoy how following Him makes us feel. David said the Lord was always with him; God was at his right hand so he was not shaken. His heart was glad so when he rejoiced in the Lord; he learned to rest in the hope he had found. God will not abandon us in the realm of the dead and will not let His holy ones see decay. He makes known to us the paths of life and fills us with joy in His presence (Acts 2:25-28). God never leaves us or forsakes us; we find life and joy when we give our heart to Him. Christ made a covenant with us when He ascended into heaven and we were promised that the Holy Spirit would come. This is what helps keep His law in our heart and writes them in our mind (Hebrews 10:16). When we say Lord I Give You My Heart we are equipped with everything we need to successfully give it all to Him. The only way we fail to give Him our heart is if we will not do our part to seek Him. If we draw near to God He will be near to us and if not He will be patiently waiting for us to do so.

Tuesday’s Torch

Bless the Lord, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name. (Psalm 103:1)

Last week we learned about love; we found out that Gods love never fails and learned how we can pay it forward onto others. Our song was Your Love Never Fails by Jesus Culture. Love is one reason why we choose to bless the Lord. However there are countless reasons for us to bless His holy name with everything inside of us. Today our song is 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/SI51m2atJ8E or search for it on YouTube. When the new day dawns and the sun comes up it is time to sing our song to Him. Every moment that passes and what lies ahead let us keep on singing when the evening comes. We bless the Lord with our soul; with everything in us we bless His holy name. We sing like never before in our soul as we worship Him. Each of us are unique so the reasons we choose to bless the Lord may vary. Some of us praise Him because we were told to or everyone else does it on Sunday. Others praise because they have a job, are healthy, had prayers answered, are in need of a touch from God or want a better relationship with Him. It is best to praise just because God deserves it but whatever reason we do it for He appreciates it and it’s one of the things He most enjoys about us. Some of the reasons I bless the Lord with praises is because of the blessings He has poured out on me. My health is good for someone with my disability, I have a nice house and vehicle, always have food to eat and God has blessed me with a beautiful wife. There are 10,000 Reasons for us to praise the Lord and it’s important that we do so because it’s how we bless Him for what He has done.

It is good for us to bless the Lord at all times; His praise should always be on our lips (Psalm 34:1). When we bless Him we must remember all His benefits; He pardons our sins, heals our sickness, delivers us from hell and shows us His love and compassion. He satisfies all our years with good things so our youth is renewed like the eagle (Psalm 103:2-5). God wants us to remember why He deserves our praise because it is His desire for us to be satisfied in our lives. Some people consider Sunday as holy others say every day is the same. Each of us should be convinced that whatever we do is for the Lord. If we eat meat or abstain from eating let us do it with thanks to God. If we live or die we do it for the Lord because we belong to Him. That is why Christ died and raised again so He would be Lord of both the living and the dead (Romans 14:5-9). Whatever the reasons we praise Him we must be convinced on the inside that we do it all for Him. God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ because before creation He was made holy and blameless. In love we were chosen to be adopted as children in Christ according to His pleasure and will— to the praise of God’s grace that was freely given by His son. In His blood we are redeemed and have been forgiven in accordance with God’s grace poured out on us. With wisdom and understanding we can know the mystery of His will and good pleasure, which was purposed in Christ (Ephesians 1:3-9). In Christ alone we could find 10,000 Reasons to praise the Lord. Everything can be considered a loss because of what it is worth to know Christ. It is all garbage in order to be found by Him, not because of our righteousness but that which is through faith in Him. To know Him is to know the power of His resurection, participate in sufferings, dying to self so we may attain resurection from the dead (Philippians 3:8-11). If Christ is Lord of our heart we must always be prepared to answer everyone the reason for the hope that we have (1 Peter 3:15). One or more of 10,000 Reasons is why we bless God with our praise and is why we share our hope with others.

Tuesday’s Torch

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. (Psalm 63:3)

Last week we learned the fundamentals of what we accept as true if we’re a believer in Christ. Our song was We Believe by Newsboys. We have beheld the power and glory of God in the earth because His love is greater than life and our lips bring glory to Him. For all our lives we should be praising God and lifting our hands to Him (Psalm 63:2-4). Our song today is Your Love Never Fails by Jesus Culture. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/X_2qG22SPwU or search for it on YouTube. Nothing can separate us from Gods love; even if we run away His love never fails. We still make mistakes but His mercies for us are new every day. God’s love for us never fails. His love is the same through the ages, it never changes. We praise the Lord among the nations and sing to Him surrounded by other people. Great is God’s love it reaches the heavens and His faithfulness reaches the skies (Psalm 57:9-10). Your Love Never Fails Lord; because we know He’s good; His love is perfect. A few years ago I was shocked by Gods love for me when I needed a new handicapped van. First my mom and me survived a crash on the interstate and were unharmed. Around that time a new friend of ours had the idea to do a benefit to raise money for us to get a van. In the process I was interviewed by local news and must have become a local celebrity because ten times our meals at random restaurants were paid for by strangers. Between the Care, Give, Love Festival and money from the crash we had ten thousand dollars to pay on a new van. After finding out the state would pay to have a van modified we ended up with a fifty thousand dollar customized van. That van made it possible for me to date someone three hours from home and now she is my wife so I have seen the power of God’s love.

I am convinced that neither death nor life, angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39). There is nothing that can stop the love of God that is available to us through Christ. The bridge He built gave us unlimited access to God’s love. If Your Love Never Fails God we can be encouraged from being united with Christ. Any comfort from His love, any common sharing in the Spirit, any tenderness and compassion is from Him. Our joy maybe compete by being like Him, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. We must not be selfish or snobby but humbly value others above ourselves, not so worried about what we want but about the wants and needs of others (Philippians 2:1-4). If love never fails for God it will not fail us if we will imitate Him as we relate with the world around us. If we have a gift from God or do anything good it is useless if we have no love. Love is patient, kind, not jealous, boastful or proud. It does not dishonor, is not selfish, easily angered or keeping a tab of wrongs. Love doesn’t delight in evil but rejoices with truth. It always protects, trusts, hopes and preserves (1 Corinthians 13:1-8). Love Never Fails. If this is true when God loves failure is impossible. Love comes from God so let us love one another; if we do we are born of God and know Him. God is love so if we don’t love we don’t know Him. This is love: not that we love God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. Since God so loved us, we should love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is complete in us (1 John 4:7-12). We know that Your Love Never Fails Lord so we ask that we would learn to love others like we have been loved.

Tuesday’s Torch

What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” (Romans 4:3)

Last week we learned that God is beautiful because He is good and sent us His son so we could be forgiven. Our song was Beautiful One by Jeremy Camp. Abraham the human father of the Jewish faith believed God and because he did God considered him righteous. What God wants is for us to believe in Jesus Christ and the fundamentals of what that means. Today our song is about the foundation of true Christian faith, what we believe and why we do. That song is We Believe by Newsboys. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/FtPmX7e_Rpw or search for it on YouTube. If we could think for a moment what exactly is it that we are believing in? Could we sum it up in just a few sentences so anyone could understand it? What we believe and why we believe it is important so we can know our starting point, grow in our faith and share the Lord with others. In times of desperation, when all we know is doubt and fear there is a firm foundation we can find. We believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit and the new life we find in them. We believe Christ was crucified, conquered death, rose again from the grave and He’s coming back again. This is part of a short description concerning our beliefs based upon what a glorious thing the Lord has done for us. We Believe some amazing things and only faith in Christ can make a claim that our savior died but He didn’t stay that way.

If We Believe in the name of Jesus we have the right to become children of God, not born of Him naturally, nor human decision or the will of a spouse but born of God (John 1:12-13). God is not our father in the flesh but if we believe in Jesus we are part of His family. If We Believe that God is real believing in Christ shouldn’t be too difficult, nothing for us to be troubled about (John 14:1). Believing in Jesus in some ways could be easier because there is written history that proves He is real. We Believe that Christ was born from the Father so if we love Him we will also love His son (1 John 5:1). We cannot love God the father or the son if we do not believe in and love them both. No longer are we made righteous by perfectly following all the laws of God and the prophets. Our righteousness is found through our believing in Jesus Christ. We are not Jew and Gentile anymore because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. All are justified freely by the grace and redemption we find in Christ alone (Romans 3:21-24). Because we believe in Jesus, just like Abraham believed in God it is counted to us as righteousness. If we declare with our mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead then we are saved. In our hearts we believe and are justified, and it is with our mouth that we profess our faith and receive salvation (Romans 10:9-10). To say We Believe is step one for us but not only saying it is enough; we must truly believe that He has saved us. Our belief is that Jesus died and rose again so we believe that God will bring with Him believers who’ve already fallen asleep (1 Thessalonians 4:14). We support the belief that Jesus will return for everyone who believes and those who have already passed will be with Him. We were inclined to believe in Christ when we heard truth in the gospel of our salvation. When we believed we were marked with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit who is a guarantee of our inheritance as possessions of God and to bring Him Glory (Ephesians 1:13-14). We Believe in a three part God and each of them serve a great role in our story; without believing the basics there is nothing for us to trust in.

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind (Psalm 107:8)

Last week we learned Jesus laid down His life for us so we can trade our sorrows to live our life for Him. Our song was I’m Trading My Sorrows by Darrell Evans. We give thanks to the Lord because His love never fails. He does wonderful deeds for mankind; He is beautiful. Today our song is Beautiful One by Jeremy Camp. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/JJ_b4-W1dSc or search for it on YouTube. The unfailing love of God is wonderful. The cross spoke His mercy over us. No eye has seen, ear has heard or no heart could fully know how glorious and beautiful is God. The Beautiful One we love and adore is the one our soul sings for. The Lord satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things (Psalm 107:9). Anyone who satisfies all of our needs and does good things for us is beautiful in our lives. This is the place where the Lord wants to be in our lives. He loves us and only wishes for us to see His beauty. Our God is very great; He is clothed in splendor and majesty (Psalm 104:1). He is wearing something marvelous to impress us and let us know above it all He is very great. His beauty is undeniable and it can be found throughout all of creation. We are made in the image and likeness of God. We give Him praise because we are fearfully and wonderfully made; His works are wonderful and we can fully see them if we open our hearts up to Him (Psalm 139:14). My wife loves this verse because each of us no matter our flaws and imperfections is a masterpiece created by God. We are made beautiful in His sight because He is the Beautiful One we are most crafting our lives to be like.

The mountains to most of us are lovely. The feet of those who bring good news, proclaim peace, good tidings and who proclaim salvation are beautiful even in contrast to the mountains. They proclaim in Zion, “Our God reigns” (Isaiah 52:7). Those who see that God is beautiful know that He reigns supreme. Jesus Christ would come and show us what the will of God was like. It was not angry and violent as many perceived; it was a thing of beauty for a lost, hurt and dying world. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). The highest form of government is on Christ and still He is called wonderful and the prince of peace. When I think of politics wonderful and peaceful do not come to mind but only the Beautiful One could make it that way. A woman at Bethany caused debate among Jesus and His disciples when she anointed Jesus feet with expensive perfume. They thought it better to sell the perfume and give the money to the poor but Jesus told them not to bother her. It was a beautiful thing she had done for Him. The poor would always be there to receive ministry but Christ knew they soon would have Him no longer and that the perfume would be used for His burial (Matthew 26:9-11). The point is she did a beautiful thing for someone she recognized as beautiful and was willing to seemingly waste valuable goods to show her appreciation to Him. Christ has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light because we are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a special possession to God so we may declare our praises to Him (1 Peter 2:9). We have been sent by God to spread good news to all the world. It is beautiful to Him when we do this (Romans 10:15). The Beautiful One we live for is looking for those who will recognize Him and see His value so much so we will share of His goodness for mankind with others.
