Tuesday’s Torch

The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. (John 10:17)

Last week we learned about the wonders of God and how we can see Him even in small ways when we give our lives to Him. Our song was God Of Wonders by Third Day. God the Father really loved the devotion of Christ to us. He willingly laid down His life for us and took it back up again so our relationship with God could be restored. Our song for today will be Lay Me Down by Rush of Fools. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/RMHezIOJtZc or search for it on YouTube. With hearts open wide from the depths and the heights I bring a sacrifice to the Lord. With hands lifted high; hear my song and my cry as I bring a sacrifice. Lay Me Down, I am not my own; I belong to Him alone. Hands on my heart it is true there’s no life apart from God alone. What Jesus did for us when He laid it all down He did so we would be saved from our sinful nature. When He was made alive again we were made alive with Him for eternity. What we give to Him is what He first gave to His Father. He wants our lives to be devoted to the truth that can only be found in Him. We must willingly Lay Me Down and let Him be alive in us. We do this with our lives and actions. We lay down our lives for the sake of the gospel and to show the love of Christ to others. We submit our lives to God, not to our own understanding and He will keep us on the right path (Proverbs 3:5-6). When we Lay Me Down to Him we give up living for ourselves and we learn how to return our love to Him and how to love others. When we yield it all to the Lord we gain everything we will ever need forever.

Christ is the good shepherd and He laid His life down for all His sheep (John 10:11). We are His sheep and the Father loves this about His Son; that He would willingly sacrifice His own comfort to save all of us. His command is that we would love eachother as He has loved us. No one has greater love than the one willing to lay down their life for a friend. We are Christs friend if we follow His command to love others (John 15:12-14). To give our lives has very little to do with dying; we give our lives when we say I Lay Me Down to unselfishly give to someone else. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so (Romans 8:7). When our mind is not concerned about following God we will not submit to Him. If we are operating in the flesh there is no way for us to submit our mind to Him. For this reason we must not let sin rule over our bodies by obeying its evil desires. We must not offer any part of us over to sin and wickedness but rather offer ourselves to God who gave us life. We offer every part of us to Him to be used as instruments of righteousness. Sin is no longer master over us because we are not under the law but under grace (Romans 6:12-14). If we belong to God it will be our desire to please Him and not satisfy our evil tendencies. We may still sin sometimes but our goal needs to be letting God use us and allowing His grace to change us. We know what love is because Christ laid down His life for us. This is why we will Lay Me Down to our brothers and sisters. If we are blessed enough to have material possessions and see someone in need but have no pity on them, how can the love of God be in us? We must not love only with our words and speech but with actions and truth (1 John 3:16-18). We can say we love anyone but if we don’t lay down ourselves and show them it is only words. So then let us submit it all to God, resist the devil and he will flee from us (James 4:7). If we will Lay Me Down and resist the devil others will see the love of God in us and we will be changed by the grace we been given.

Tuesday’s Torch

By: Tim Sader

The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy. (Psalm 65:8)

Last week we learned that we can experience the glory of the Lord forever by having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We praised to the song Forever by Kari Jobe. The whole earth is filled with awe at the wonders of God; morning to night we experience His great works. He calls forth songs of joy from our lips. Our song today is God Of Wonders by Third Day. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/0M8XK2w7wmw or search for it on YouTube. The Lord created everything; water, earth and sky. The Heavens are His tabernacle so glory to God on high. God Of Wonders beyond our galaxy He is most Holy. We praise the Lord because He performed these mighty wonders that we can see (Deuteronomy 10:21). The earth is full of wonder that can only exist by divine design. I remember as a child going to shore of Lake Superior in Wisconsin and being amazed at a lake so big I couldn’t see across it. A few years later I went to visit my aunt and uncle in Arizona. This was my first time flying and being above the clouds, it seemed impossible. When I got there it was my first time seeing mountains and they were amazing. While I was there we took a day trip to see the Grand Canyon and nothing could have prepared me for the sight I was about to see. My brother said the first time he knew God was real is when he seen this incredible gorge. After seeing this there is absolutely no way it was created by erosion from a river flowing through it. This massive crack in the earth has the hand of God written all over it and nothing else would make sense to me. Since then I have learned to see God in little things like the air we breathe, food, water, laughter, sunshine and every living thing. He is the God Of Wonders because He created all things and we can find Him in it all.

What other god is like our God? Who is majestic and holy, awesome in glory and worker of wonders like Him (Exodus 15:11)? No god could be greater than our God because no other god could be above everything if He already did it all. Long ago God made a covenant with His people to show others wonders never done in any other nation. The people living among them saw how awesome the work of the Lord is for His people (Exodus 34:10). This covenant is what he will do in our lives too. People should know that we are different because we are blessed by God and He is awesome in us. He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted (Job 5:9). We cannot imagine all the miracles it takes to keep the universe in perfect order but nevertheless it remains that way. Without God this would be impossible. We want to see the wonders of His love, He saves all those by His right hand who put their trust in Him (Psalm 17:7). He loves every one of us and will be our help when we turn to Him. The wonders of God are remembered; He is gracious and compassionate (Psalm 111:4). The God Of Wonders is kind and concerned about us so we remember when He shows up in big ways. After Jesus the apostles did many wonders and everyone was filled with awe at the signs they performed (Acts 2:43). Working wonders didn’t stop with Jesus; the nations still need the Lord and they can most find Him when He shows up in the lives of His followers. We lead others to obey Him by what Christ has accomplished through us; by the power of signs and wonders through the Spirit of God (Romans 15:18-19). He is a God Of Wonders we cannot comprehend but yet He cares enough about each of us to give us life and be our help when we trust in Him.

Tuesday’s Torch

By: Tim Sader

Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen. (Psalm 72:19)

Last week we learned that Christ is the firm foundation for us to build our lives upon. Our song was Cornerstone by Hillsong. We praise the Lord forever because His name is glorious. All the earth is filled with His glory if we will open ourselves up to Him. Today our song is Forever by Kari Jobe. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/mv4LRl2KI2M or search for it on YouTube. The Son of God waged a war on death from the grave to break the power of hell. The ground shook and the stone was rolled away on the day He was raised. His love for us could not be overcome so death where is your string? Our resurrected King has rendered you defeated. Forever He is glorified, lifted high and risen from the grave; He is alive. Many times I have seen His glory show up in the strangest of places where I would have never expected it to. On the Sunday before Easter 2014 I heard today’s song for the first time at her church, when I was dating my wife. The song was beautiful and it brought tears to my eyes when I heard it but it didn’t seem any more special than the other songs that day. The following week on Easter I went to my home church and this same exact song was played there. This was rare for them because they usually don’t do cover songs but on that day they did. This was one of several God moments that began to show us that our attraction was so much more than physical, it was spiritual too. Before meeting my wife we were coping with the loss of loved ones so the Lord was turning our morning into joy and dancing. We were singing praises to the Lord and we will praise Him Forever (Psalm 30:11-12).

We have no one in heaven but our God and nothing on earth should we desire but the Lord. Our flesh and heart may fail but God is our strength and portion forever (Psalm 73:25-26). We should look to none but God to be the ultimate provider for our needs. We belong to Him, sheep in His pasture, we get to praise Him and proclaim His name for all generations (Psalm 79:13). God is good so we will want to praise Him always. We declare His love stands firm Forever, faithfulness was established by Him in heaven (Psalm 89:2). We can know His love for us is true and praise Him because He is faithful to do His word. His statutes are our heritage and should be the joy of our heart to follow. Our heart needs to be set on keeping the decrees of the Lord (Psalm 119:111-112). When we do what is pleasing to the Lord and His word we are opening ourselves to experiencing His glory in our lives. Jesus is the bread of life from heaven. If we partake of Him we will live Forever. The bread is His flesh freely given for every life that lives in the world (John 6:51). When we make Christ our Lord we are choosing to be with Him for all of eternity. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and Forever (Hebrews 13:8). What He did in the past He can do for us today and what we face in the future He can handle. Nothing is impossible for God. We have been born again of imperishable seed through the living and enduring word of the Lord. We are all like grass that withers and our glory like flowers that fall and die but His word will always endure (1 Peter 1:23-25). We must not love the things of this world or the love of God is not in us. Lusts of the flesh and eyes as well as the pride of life are not from God but from the world. The desires of this world will pass away but whoever does the will of God never dies (1 John 2:15-17). The will of God is that we would believe in His son and follow His word so we can experience His glory Forever.
