To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27)

Last week we learned that in Christ we have more than enough to satisfy our needs forever. Our praise song was Christ Is Enough by Hillsong. God chose us, the Gentiles, to reveal the glorious riches of the mystery which is Christ in us, the hope of glory. It is a mystery for us to understand how Christ can be in us all and save us from our sins. The greatness of God manifests itself in our lives to bring the hope of glory into our world. Today we will praise the Lord with the song Great In Us by Elevation Worship. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/W3Re3mzAAno or search for the song on YouTube. Our hearts can feel God rising and stirring hope within us. He is calling out to us as we hear His voice cutting through the darkness. He calls to us just as we cry out for love. Our Lord and savior is greater than our sin, His greater love begins through the power of the cross His love is Great In Us. When Paul first preached to the Galatians he did it while he had an illness. This illness seemed to them to be a trial for him but they accepted him like they would have an angel of the Lord without looking down on him. They might have even taken his place and given their eyes to him to relieve him the burden; though later they had trouble when he had to speak truth to them (Galatians 4:13-16). Often I can relate to Paul as he preached to them despite his illness. Everything I currently do is in spite of Muscular Dystrophy and progressive weakness to all of my muscles. Physically there is very little I can do without assistance but what I do have can be shared with others. I have the Lord and every single day I trust my life to Him because without Him I don’t think I could do this. If I have done anything good with my life it is because He is Great In Us and greatly to be praised.

Once we were counted as dead because of our sin but we are made alive again by Jesus Christ. No more can we let sin control our flesh by obeying our desire to do what is evil (Romans 6:11-12). Because of God’s love for us and His rich mercy we are made alive with Christ eventhough we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace we have been saved (Ephesians 2:4-5). The love of God is great enough for Him to have mercy on us and give us grace through His Son. If the Spirit of God lives in us we no longer belong to the realm of the flesh but in the realm of the Spirit. Even though our bodies are subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives us life through our righteousness in Christ. If the Spirit that raised Him up is in us, the Lord will also give life to our mortal bodies (Romans 8:9-11). The Spirit of God is Great In Us because we have been redeemed from death and can live this life abundantly in Him. God has made many promises to all who would believe in Him and His Son. In Him all these promises are yes, He has the final say over what we speak that brings glory to God. He makes it so we can stand firm in Christ. He has anointed, sealed us as His and deposited His Spirit in our hearts so that we can be sure of the glory that is to come (2 Corinthians 1:20-22). It is a great thing that He keeps all His promises to us so that we can trust in Him. Through faith in Christ we are made children of God; if we were baptized into Christ we are clothed with Him (Galatians 3:26-27). Christ is Great In Us if we will have faith that He can cover the filth with Himself. His grace is sufficient for us all because His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). God is Great In Us because He meets us where we are weakest so that our boasting may show that His power is present in our lives.

Tuesday’s Torch

The death he died, he died to sin once for all but the life he lives, he lives to God. (Romans 6:10)

Last week we found out about the power of God in Jesus to break all the chains of the enemy keeping us bond in this life. Our song was Break Every Chain by Tasha Cobbs. Now that His word broke those old chains we need to find something positive to attach our lives to; not because we have to but instead we choose to. The death that Christ died on the cross was not so only a few would be saved; His death was enough for everyone who would call on Him. Now the life He lives is to God so the enemy no longer has power over us. Today we will praise with the song Christ Is Enough by Hillsong. The link is https://youtu.be/zbzsiRoTSPc or search for the song on YouTube. Christ is our reward if we have devoted it all to Him. Nothing in this world could ever fulfill the way we are satisfied when He is with us. Through all our trials we sing; no turning back because He has set us free. Christ Is Enough for me; He is enough for us all to share. Only He can provide for all our needs. I think this reality is no more real to a believer than if they became saved as a child. Honestly all children have a certain level of belief so we can all relate. Children need very little proof to believe anything because they have imagination and trust without a second thought. If they learn about Jesus, understanding what God’s Son did for them and they make a commitment to Him it is because they are convinced it is enough to forgive them. When we grow up and get responsibilities we learn to do things without God and sometimes He becomes less than enough for us. Can we say Christ Is Enough for me? Is He? How do we make sure that He stays that way?

How we live is important for us to have a healthy relationship with the Lord. It takes wisdom to do what is right. We must make the best of every situation because the day we’re in are full of evil. We must not be foolish but learn and understand the will of the Lord. Getting drunk and letting our openness lead us into sin is not wise. It is best to be led by the Holy Spirit by giving encouragement to others through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit. We should sing to the Lord from our heart and enjoy our salvation, giving our thanks to God for everything through the name of Jesus (Ephesians 5:15-20). We should count it all loss because of the greater worth of knowing Christ our Lord, who helped us lose it when we were saved. If we consider it all garbage what we get in Christ is the greatest gift (Philippians 3:8). Christ Is Enough for us to give up our past! He’s no stranger to what we are turning from; He became human so that in death He might break the power of him who holds the power of death, the devil. He freed our lives from being slaves to the fear of death (Hebrews 2:14-15). Christ Is Enough to retrieve the power of death so we don’t have to fear it all our lives. The challenges we suffer with in this life cannot stop God’s Word because it cannot be chained. We endure these things for the sake of those who have not obtained their salvation in Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 2:9-10). He is enough for us to endure struggles for the sake of the needs of others since He suffered for us all. For those who are unsaved and for our great cloud of witnesses let us throw off sins that hinder us. We must run our race with diligence, fixing our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of faith (Hebrews 12:1-2). He perfected it on the cross and was seated at God’s right hand. Now may God, who brought Him back from the dead equip us in everything good for doing His will and He will work in us what is pleasing to Him (Hebrews 13:20-21). Christ Is Enough because our faith is only made perfect when we acknowledge that we need Him to save us.

Tuesday’s Torch

Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God. (John 13:3)

Last week we learned that one day spent in the presence of God is better than any other day and if we abide in Him those days can be without end. We praised Him with the song Better Is One Day by Kutless. Jesus knew the power of His name that the Father had given to Him. He knew this because He came from God and would return to Him when He was trough here on earth. Today our praise song is Break Every Chain by Tasha Cobbs. The link to the song is https://youtu.be/-pD2zIuiC2g or search for the song on YouTube. There is great and mighty power in the name of Jesus. By the power of His name every chain that held us bond is broken. There is power in the name of Jesus to Break Every Chain. No one is like our God because only His name is mighty in power (Jeremiah 10:6). When I finally got to move to the Charleston area with my wife I was relieved to be settled. After a month together I needed to return to Charlotte for a final appointment at that MDA Clinic before transferring here. It was my first trip away from my wife. We said a very sad newlywed goodbye and a prayer for protection since my wife felt uncertain about the trip. During our journey mom was driving and kept singing, there is power in the name of Jesus to Break Every Chain. After checking into our hotel we went to see friends in York when we saw another friend walking. We pulled in driveway to give her a ride and say hello. As we backed out onto the highway our van stopped in the center between lanes of traffic in both directions and wouldn’t move. There was a semi coming in one direction and traffic in the other. There was no way for that truck to miss us but it flew past and didn’t touch us. That day we saw power in the name of Jesus. We took time to spend with Him and prayed for His protection. If He had not been with us my wife might have quickly become a widow.

The Lord brings the redeemed out of the darkness and breaks away our chains. Let us give thanks for His unfailing love and for the wonderful deeds He has shown to mankind. Only He can break down bronze gates and cut through bars of iron (Psalm 107:14-16). We are the redeemed of the Lord if we are believers in Jesus Christ and He will Break Every Chain that keeps us bond by evil. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power; He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil because God was with Him (Acts 10:38). Not even physical healing is outside the realm of possibility when we use the name of Jesus to set us free. On the night when He was betrayed Jesus prayed, “I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one (John 17:11).” We are one with Christ so the power given Him has been shared with us when we call on Him. That power is the same strength used by God when Christ was raised from the dead and seated at His right hand. He is far above all rule, authority, power, dominion and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come (Ephesians 1:19-21). God exalted Jesus by giving Him the name above all names. Everything will bow its knee and every tongue confess that He is Lord to glorify God (Philippians 2:9-11). After being flogged and thrown into prison Paul and Silas were praying and praising God. Suddenly there was a great earthquake that shook open all the prison gates and everyone’s chains fell off (Acts 16:26). When we take time to pray and praise the Lord in spite of our circumstances; He will be with us and when trouble comes only He can Break Every Chain.
