Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. (1 Corinthians 16:13)
Last week we learned that God is forever faithful to those who make Him Lord of their lives. We praised to the song The Lord Our God by Kristian Stanfill. Throughout the bible many times people of faith have had to be reminded to be brave and we should be to. We must be on guard for anything ungodly entering our lives. To do this we must stand firm in the faith; be courageous and be strong. Today our praise song is You Make Me Brave by Amanda Cook and Bethel Music. The link to the song is https://youtu.be/_UglO7SGUWk or search for the song and artist on YouTube. We stand before the Lord in the greatness of His renown. We have heard of His wonders and majesty; King of Heaven we bow to Him. As His love in wave after wave crashes over us we know that He is for us and not against us. The Champion of Heaven made a way so we all can enter in. We can boldly come to the Lord without fear because Jesus made the way for us to do so. We sing to Him, You Make Me Brave because He was brave in doing what He did for us. He showed us that when we are brave enough to do what God has for us we will see that He is faithful and just in all He does. We will remain confident that the Lord will show us His goodness in the land of the living. We must be willing to wait on the Lord and while we do so we must be strong and take heart that He will come through (Psalm 27:13-14). I had my opportunity to be brave a few years ago when I was asked to speak to a large crowd one Sunday morning. The church was helping me throw a benefit concert so we could get a new handicapped accessible van and they wanted me to give a ten minute message. I anxiously approached the platform that many well esteemed men of God had spoken from. They were expecting me to sell the benefit but God had bigger ideas so I bravely spoke on the topic of courage. Jesus, You Make Me Brave because without His doing, it was something I would never have considered.
Faithful people love the Lord and He preserves those who are true to Him, but the proud he pays back in full. We can be strong and take heart if our hope is in the Lord (Psalm 31:23-24). Bravery comes when we hope in Him. We should have courage and not be terrified when we face resistance from the enemy because God goes with us and He will never leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). If God is with us how can we be anything but brave? The strong and very courageous are careful to obey the laws of God and whatever He speaks to their heart. We abide in the Word of God when we speak it, meditate on it always and carefully do what it tells us to. If we do not turn from His Word we will be prosperous and successful. We already know not to be afraid or discouraged because the Lord is with us wherever we go (Joshua 1:7-9). You Make Me Brave, Lord! Not everyone is as sure about their strength but we can help build up the feeble hands and weak knees by saying to the fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you (Isaiah 35:3-4).” There is nothing to fear when God is with us. Jesus tells us of His struggles so that in Him we can find peace because in this world we will face troubles. We can be brave because we know He has overcome the world (John 16:33). If it all is overcome, our struggles, in Him are no more. We can be strong in the Lord and His mighty power. He’s given us spiritual armor so we can take our stand when the enemy schemes against us (Ephesians 6:10-11). Lord God almighty, You Make Me Brave because the mighty hand of God is with us when we follow Him.
