Tuesday’s Torch

07/26/16

By: Tim Sader

Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:39)

Last week we learned that we can come to Christ in whatever our current condition maybe and He will do His good work in us. Our song was Jesus I Come by Elevation Worship. Nothing of any size, visible or invisible nor anything in creation can keep God’s love from us and we can only find that love in Christ. Today we will praise with the song In Christ Alone by Owl City. The link to the song is https://youtu.be/xnWw24s5gG8 or search for the song and artist on YouTube. In Christ Alone we find hope, light and strength. He is our song; this cornerstone, our solid ground, firm through our fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! Our comforter and all in all, here in the love of Christ we stand. Now that I am married to the love of my life I am enjoying life with her like I never have before. That being said this time has also brought about significant changes to both of our lives on so many levels. In general people do not like change and the more challenges we face on a daily basis the harder it is to change. My relationship with my wife is solid and unmoved by these changes. However working through these changes has not been the easiest thing in the world for us to do. For me personally emotions and feelings are not the issue but the changes have had somewhat of a physiological effect on me. I’ve lost weight and have gotten thinner then what I should be and gaining weight feels overwhelming to me at times. The Lord has brought me through being underweight before when my brother passed away and in this storm also I will find my hope In Christ Alone.

Even when we were God’s enemies, living in sin, we were reconciled to Him by the death of His Son. How much more are we saved through His life? We boast in God through our believing in Jesus Christ whom through Him alone we have received reconsiliation (Romans 5:10-11). Nothing in creation can keep us from the love we received when we were reconciled with our creator. Thanks be to our God who has given us victory In Christ Alone (1 Corinthians 15:57). We have the victory over everything in our life that has nothing to do with what Jesus does. As a matter of fact if we are in Christ, we have received a new creation; the old ways of the flesh are gone and the new is here (2 Corinthians 5:17). Only in Him can we overcome our old ways because He makes us new through our rebirth. In many churches there are those who come and expect everyone to appear religious on the outside because they don’t want to be persecuted for preaching that In Christ Alone are we saved (Galatians 6:12). People do not want to seem like hypocrites so they show up on Sunday to look good but they hide that they were sinners who needed Christ to be saved. God Himself, the God of peace, sanctifies us through and through. In Him our spirit, soul and bodies are kept blameless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Christ the Son and God our Father love us and by grace they give us eternal encouragement and good hope. They encourage our hearts and strengthen us in every good deed and word (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17). All glory to Him who alone is God, In Christ our Lord and savior. All glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time, in the present and beyond belongs to Him (Jude 1:25). In Christ Alone do we find the love of God which has given us victory in our lives, keeping us blameless for now and beyond forever.

Tuesday’s Torch

07/19/16

By: Tim Sader

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

Last week we learned about how we can be courageous when our hope and trust is in the Lord. Our song was You Make Me Brave by Amanda Cook and Bethel Music. It seems sometimes like the Lord will never return for His people and that it takes too long to receive anything He has promised. He is patient because He wants no one to perish and all to come to Him. In all things He knows best but if we never come to Him we may never understand what that looks like for us. Our song of praise today will be Jesus I Come by Elevation Worship. The link to the song is https://youtu.be/XTKpM1KSPVI or search for the song and artist on YouTube. We need the grace of God more than words can say. In our weakness He is our Confidence. Jesus I Come, we come to Him. We will rise and stand redeemed as heaven opens over us. To His name eternally endless glory we will bring. Many times people feel like they cannot come to the Lord while their lives are still messed up but this isn’t what Christ tells us. It is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick. He did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (Mark 2:17). If He came to call sinners, He expects us to come to Him messed up. There is nothing we can hide from the Lord so we might as well come to Him honesty. He wants us to come when we are weary and burdened so we can enter into His rest (Matthew 11:28). Later He will give us a lighter load to carry that we can manage with His help. When we say Jesus I Come, we need only to come as we are trusting that He will build us into who we were meant to be.

When Jesus saw some of the soon to be disciples fishing He told them to follow Him and they would become fishers of men. It says that immediately they dropped their nets and followed Him (Matthew 4:19-20). Notice they didn’t run off to take a bath even though they reeked of fish and sweat. They followed Him in the condition that they were in when He first called them. Later when children were approaching Jesus they tried sending them away. But Jesus said let them come to me, do not hinder them because the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these. If we will not receive the kingdom of God like a child we may never enter it (Mark 10:14-15). We must receive the kingdom like a child believes in whatever they have been told is true. A child doesn’t believe in Santa after they fix everything first; they believe then they improve so they get better gifts. All we must do is come to Jesus and believe that He is the Son of God and able to forgive our sins. A man asks Jesus how do you receive eternal life? Jesus tells him that he lacks one thing and says, go sell everything and give to the poor then come follow me (Mark 10:21). This man was rich and had many possessions so the thought of giving it all up made him sad. The disciples who had nothing holding them back immediately followed Christ; it was not so easy for the rich man. When we decide Jesus I Come; He wants us to drop the net and whatever else would keep us from following Him. Even knowing the scriptures or being a biblical scholar cannot give us eternal life. Only coming to Jesus will give us the life we always wanted (John 5:39-40). At a festival Jesus stands and says let the thirsty come drink of me and whoever believes will have rivers of water flowing from them (John 7:37-38). As we come to the living Stone rejected by humans but chosen by God as precious we are built into a spiritual house (1 Peter 2:4-5). Jesus I Come to be a holy priesthood offering sacrifices to God through You.

Tuesdays Torch week 392

Tuesday’s Torch

07/12/16

By: Tim Sader

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. (1 Corinthians 16:13)

Last week we learned that God is forever faithful to those who make Him Lord of their lives. We praised to the song The Lord Our God by Kristian Stanfill. Throughout the bible many times people of faith have had to be reminded to be brave and we should be to. We must be on guard for anything ungodly entering our lives. To do this we must stand firm in the faith; be courageous and be strong. Today our praise song is You Make Me Brave by Amanda Cook and Bethel Music. The link to the song is https://youtu.be/_UglO7SGUWk or search for the song and artist on YouTube. We stand before the Lord in the greatness of His renown. We have heard of His wonders and majesty; King of Heaven we bow to Him. As His love in wave after wave crashes over us we know that He is for us and not against us. The Champion of Heaven made a way so we all can enter in. We can boldly come to the Lord without fear because Jesus made the way for us to do so. We sing to Him, You Make Me Brave because He was brave in doing what He did for us. He showed us that when we are brave enough to do what God has for us we will see that He is faithful and just in all He does. We will remain confident that the Lord will show us His goodness in the land of the living. We must be willing to wait on the Lord and while we do so we must be strong and take heart that He will come through (Psalm 27:13-14). I had my opportunity to be brave a few years ago when I was asked to speak to a large crowd one Sunday morning. The church was helping me throw a benefit concert so we could get a new handicapped accessible van and they wanted me to give a ten minute message. I anxiously approached the platform that many well esteemed men of God had spoken from. They were expecting me to sell the benefit but God had bigger ideas so I bravely spoke on the topic of courage. Jesus, You Make Me Brave because without His doing, it was something I would never have considered.

Faithful people love the Lord and He preserves those who are true to Him, but the proud he pays back in full. We can be strong and take heart if our hope is in the Lord (Psalm 31:23-24). Bravery comes when we hope in Him. We should have courage and not be terrified when we face resistance from the enemy because God goes with us and He will never leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). If God is with us how can we be anything but brave? The strong and very courageous are careful to obey the laws of God and whatever He speaks to their heart. We abide in the Word of God when we speak it, meditate on it always and carefully do what it tells us to. If we do not turn from His Word we will be prosperous and successful. We already know not to be afraid or discouraged because the Lord is with us wherever we go (Joshua 1:7-9). You Make Me Brave, Lord! Not everyone is as sure about their strength but we can help build up the feeble hands and weak knees by saying to the fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you (Isaiah 35:3-4).” There is nothing to fear when God is with us. Jesus tells us of His struggles so that in Him we can find peace because in this world we will face troubles. We can be brave because we know He has overcome the world (John 16:33). If it all is overcome, our struggles, in Him are no more. We can be strong in the Lord and His mighty power. He’s given us spiritual armor so we can take our stand when the enemy schemes against us (Ephesians 6:10-11). Lord God almighty, You Make Me Brave because the mighty hand of God is with us when we follow Him.
