The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)
Last week we learned about being in the presence of God and what we can do to live our lives in that place. Our song was In You Presence by Elevation Worship. Sometimes our enemy, “the thief” comes to try and rob us from the presence of God. If only he can steal this from us will he be able to kill or destroy us. Christ came to give us life and to give it more abundantly. If we remain in His presence we will not let the enemy to come near us. Today our song is Death Was Arrested by North Point InsideOut. The link to the song is https://youtu.be/kc9LP4h0Uxw or search for the song and artist on YouTube. Before Christ we were alone in our sorrow and dead in our sin. Lost without a hope we had no place to begin until love made a way to let mercy come in. That’s when Death Was Arrested and our life began. His grace washes us clean, we have been made new because our life begins with the Lord. His never ending love pours down on us as our life is made new in Him. Jesus the image of God in the flesh is the first born of all creation. All things were created by and through Him; His authority is over every power in all of creation. He is head of the church; the beginning and firstborn from among the dead and in everything He reigns supreme. God was pleased that Christ made reconciliation for all things making peace through His shed blood (Colossians 1:15-20). When we were dead in sin God made us alive with Christ. He forgave our sin and cancelled the legal charges that condemned us to death by taking them upon Himself and nailing them to the cross. He disarmed the authority and power of those charges by triumphing over them on that cross (Colossians 2:13-15). When Jesus was arrested, Death Was Arrested, that was the beginning of His ultimate plan to redeem us from our sins.
Since Christ has been raised from the dead we know that He cannot die again; death holds Him back no longer. The death He died, He died to sin but the life He lives, He lives to God (Romans 6:9-10). If death could not stop Him and He died to sin then sin has no power over those of us who believe. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification (Romans 4:25). If by the trespass of one man death reigned through him, how much will we who’ve received the grace of God and gift of righteousness reign in life through one man, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17)! Death Was Arrested when Jesus brought us from death into life with Him. At one time we were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by our passions. We lived in spite, envy and hatred toward others and them on us. When the kindness of God appeared, He saved us, not because of our righteousness but by His mercy. He saved us through washing, rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom we generously received through Christ our Savior. So having justification by His grace, we may become heirs having the hope of eternal life (Titus 3:3-7). He saved us and called us to a holy life not by anything we have done but because of His purpose and grace. This grace was given by Christ from the beginning but now it was revealed when He became our Savior destroying death, bringing life and immortality to light through the gospel (2 Timothy 1:9-10). Since we have flesh and blood, Christ shared in our humanity so that by His death, He broke the power of the enemy who holds the power of death and freed those who were held in slavery by their fear of death (Hebrews 2:14-15). Death Was Arrested when the enemy’s power was broken and abundant life came upon us at our salvation.

No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
