If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:3)
Last week we learned about God showing His glory to us and one Glorious Day when Jesus comes to sit on His throne. Last week our song was Glorious Day by Casting Crowns. When we received salvation we decided to follow Christ. This means we submit our lives to Him telling Him to do with us what He wants to do. Our song for today is Do What You Want To by Vertical Church Band. The link to the song is https://youtu.be/TtIzi6fi0qk or search for the song and artist on YouTube. It’s the heart of God we’re searching for and nothing more will satisfy us. We want His glory to fill the room so we can live in His presence. We must surrender all telling Him Do What You Want To. If we long to see Him move we will say Do What You Want To my Lord. We trust in the Lord and not our own understanding; by submitting to Him our path will be straight (Proverbs 3:5-6). When He does what He wants to do we will be on the right path. Many of us are afraid to submit to the Lord because we don’t know what He might require from us. This should not be so; doing it without Him is the path that leads to destruction but God wants us on the path that leads us to Him. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were on that path when God delivered them from the firery furnace. So king Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be their God who sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. This is what it looks like when we tell God Do What You Want To.
There are things we can do upon submitting our lives to God that help accomplish His plans. If we give all our possessions to the poor or give our bodies to hardship for others but do not have love we gain nothing. Loving God and our fellow man is key to us surrendering all to the Lord. We must stop letting ourselves be used for wickedness but rather give ourselves to God who brought us back from death and offer ourselves to be instruments of righteousness (Romans 6:13). If we tell God Do What You Want To we will have no desire to sin against Him. Just as we used to enslave ourselves to impurity and sinfulness now we offer ourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness (Romans 6:19). When we become slaves of righteousness we will learn to fulfill the desires of our master. We must not pay attention to every wind of doctrine that we may hear about. These stories of other gods cause useless arguments that do nothing to advance God’s instructions. If we follow them we will be grounded in faith, surrendered to Him and pursuing to love with a pure heart (1 Timothy 1:4-5). We must continue in what we have learned and are convinced of because of who we learned it from. Some of us since childhood have known the scriptures and how to receive salvation in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God it is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:14-17). When we submit to Him we can resist the devil and he will flee from us. By us being near to God He will be near to us. Washing our hands, purifying our lives from sin and being double-minded maybe grievous to us. But when we stop enjoying worldly things and humble ourselves before the Lord, He will lift us up (James 4:7-10). If we say to the Lord, Do What You Want To with me; we must give it all to Him and He will lift us higher than we could ever go without Him in our lives.
