The Lord brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up. (1 Samuel 2:6)
Last week we learned that the name of Jesus Christ our Lord has the name blessed above every other name. This is why we praised Him with the song Blessed Be Your Name by Matt Redman. With a great name comes many responsibilities that include bringing death and making alive all things. He is the one who brings us to the grave and only He can raise up the dead or dying. The song for today is Alive by Hillsong Young & Free. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/ytz3cUslhBQ or search for the song title and artist on YouTube. When we first found the Lord our lives were messed up by our sins. From ashes we rise when we find salvation in Jesus Christ. Now we are forever safe in the hands of God. Where we fix our eyes on Him trusting in the freedom and grace we have received. Because of that freedom we lift up the name of the Lord with our praises. Nothing can take the place of God inside of us. He is Alive in us, He is everything we need and because of His love we can are free. Now we live to do His will alone until we meet Him in the Kingdom. He is not God of the dead but of the living and to Him we are all Alive (Luke 20:38). We are made Alive because when His Son went into the grave three days later God raised Him up again. God is in control of life and death so if we learn to trust in Him we will learn to see the life we live is not ours alone. We are made Alive forever only if we make Jesus Lord and savior in our lives.
We are alive because Jesus came to life again and made us that way. When His followers found out that Jesus was Alive after His death they did not believe it (Mark 16:11). They were with Him and heard Him say that He would be killed and rise again after three days. So why did they not believe He was Alive again? I think it was a combination of fear for their own lives and unbelief because of the horrible way Christ died? Raising Himself from the dead had never happened so how would it now I’m sure they thought. But after His suffering, He presented Himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that He was Alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God (Acts 1:3). The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, we must count ourselves dead to sin but Alive in God through Jesus Christ (Romans 6:10-11). Death came because one man, Adam sinned so the resurrection of the dead comes through one man, Jesus who never sinned (1 Corinthians 15:21). Jesus took the punishment for that original sin on Himself though it was undeserved so we could live the life we were intended to have. In His great love God had mercy on us and made us Alive with Christ when we were still dead in our transgression; it is because of grace that we are saved (Ephesians 2:4-5). Now that we have been raised with Christ let us set our hearts on things above where Christ is seated at Gods right hand. We must think on what is above and not on the things of this world. We died to those things so we could live hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:1-3). To set our hearts and minds on Christ we must learn the word and get it on the inside of us. The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). If we are in Christ we will learn to hear the words He speaks to us because we can only be Alive if we allow Him to make us that way.

Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16).
