Tuesdays Torch week 377

Tuesday’s Torch

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20)

Last week was Easter and we learned about our Unstoppable God who brought His Son back after He was in the grave for three days. We celebrated with the song Unstoppable God by Elevation Worship. Since God is unstoppable that means He is able to handle anything that comes His way. Our God is able to help us with what we think to be impossible for us on our own. Almighty God is the one who never fails. He is so much greater than all we can ask and everything see. In three days He defeated the grave and on Easter a couple thousand years ago He was raised to life again. In His name we overcome whatever evil we might face in this life. Our God is Able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or think. God can make a way even where there is no way. At a recent doctor’s appointment I found out that I’ve lost about 30 pounds. Before we celebrate I must say that it is not really in my best interests to be this thin. I am underweight and need to gain a substantial amount to feel at my optimum health. The good news is that I have seen God move for me in a similar fashion after my brother died and I weighed even less than I do right now. The point I am making with this story is that I know God is Able to help me do this again if I trust in Him and let Him lead the way. He is also able to handle every impossible situation in each of our lives if we will trust and allow Him to do so.

In the story about Shadrak, Meshak and Abednigo we find these three young men unwilling to bow before an idol made in the image of King Nebuchadnezzar. They are unwilling to compromise their beliefs even though they will be thrown in a fiery furnace for disobeying a direct order from the King. They were convinced that God was able to deliver them from sure death and the hand of the King (Daniel 3:17). God indeed was able to save them from the fire and the King acknowledged the superiority of their God. He is able to bless each one of us with abundant blessings so that in all things at all times, we will have everything we need to abound in good works (2 Corinthians 9:8). Whatever impossible situation we face God is Able to deliver us from it without the smell of smoke getting on our clothes. Because of His great power God can do so much more than we could ever imagine. To understand us better He sent His Son to be fully human, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people. Since He suffered in this life and faced temptation, He is able to help us when we are tempted (Hebrews 2:17-18). Because Jesus lives forever He has a permanent priesthood. This is why everlasting salvation is available to those who come to God through Him; He lives to always intercede for us (Hebrews 7:24-25). He is completely able to save us from our sins. Jesus inside of us is able to keep us from stumbling and presents us in the glorious presence of God without fault and with great joy (Jude 1:24). One of the elders in John’s revelation vision said, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals (Revelation 5:5).” The Lord is able to do what no one else in creation can do. To whatever it is in our life that seems it can’t be done we need to say God is Able to do (that thing) for us.

Tuesdays Torch week 376

Tuesday’s Torch

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. (Matthew 28:2)

Last week we learned that since Jesus is Alive we can live the life He destined for us from the beginning when He created Adam.  We celebrated this life we get to live with the song Alive by Hillsong Young & Free. In a few days we will celebrate Easter; a day for us to remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On that day the earth shook and an angel came and rolled the stone away from the grave because absolutely nothing could stop our Lord from coming out of the tomb. When God thundered His voice from heaven the world was born and from its dust God formed us. By faith He makes commands and mountains move. Fear loses its grip on us when we choose to hope in the Lord. He is the God of impossibilities because all things are possible through Him and to us if we will believe. He is an Unstoppable God and His glory will go on forever. On the first Easter God showed us how unrelenting His power could be. Nothing can quite stop a man like a sudden case of death but it could not stop Jesus. All the miracles Christ did while He was on this earth were beyond amazing but all of them together cannot top a man being crucified and bring Himself back from the grave. It is true that He was part man and part God but still it is amazing on all levels. It took an Unstoppable God to bring back His son from the grave.

On Easter, early in the morning women took spices they prepared to rub on Jesus body in the tomb. When they arrived the stone had been rolled away and they found no body in there to anoint (Luke 24:1-3). This was shocking to them; they thought someone was playing the meanest trick in all of history on them. But then the angel spoke saying, “Don’t be alarmed, you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him (Mark 16:6).” Jesus persevered even in death because it could not stop God from doing what had to be done through His death and resurrection. Jesus appeared to the disciples many times after the resurrection. He visited them on the road, at home, by the sea and on the mountain. The first time He appeared to them Thomas was missing and couldn’t believe it was really Jesus. So a week later the disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” He then told Thomas to put his finger in His hand and the scar on His side and told him not to doubt (John 20:26-27). I think it is interesting that Jesus stood amoung them through a locked door. He showed them how Unstoppable He had always been. Also Jesus kept His scars to prove He had been crucified and to show what He had to overcome. After all it is our scars and how we deal with them that defines the kind of person we are and Jesus could not be stopped. After that Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” He told them to make disciples of all nations, baptize them and teach them to obey what He commanded them to do. And He is with us until the end has come (Matthew 28:18-20). We must learn to hope in the glorious riches of our inheritance, with great power and strength He raised Christ from the dead. Now Christ is seated in Heaven above all things and He fills us, the body to the fullness of Himself (Ephesians 1:18-23) Nothing is impossible, God omnipotent will never be stopped so we shout our praise forevermore because Jesus is our God Unstoppable.
