If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all. (Isaiah 7:9)
Last week we learned about how much we are loved by God with the song How He Loves Us by John Mark McMillan. Once we realize how great the Lord loves us we will want to love others in a similar fashion. Today we will learn of a place called faith with the song Faith is a Place by Jordan Rubin. The link to this song is https://youtu.be/Efi9GWD6h9A or search for the song title and artist on Youtube. This song, the story behind the lyrics and the man who sings it impacted my life significantly a few years ago when my brother Joe went home to be with the Lord. Exactly a year after my brother first became sick from an infection in his blood that led to his passing; I found myself sick with similar symptoms and didn’t know what was going on. The church we were attending got us in touch with Trudy, a nurse who would become our dear friend. When she called she thought my sickness was from the physical effects of grief with it being close to the date of my brother’s death. Just from losing Joe, my closest friend in the world I had gotten down to 112 pounds and after being sick I dropped down to 105. Trudy told my mom that this was a turning point for the better or worse but if I didn’t start getting better nutrition I would not make it. Trudy came to our house and gave us a book by Jordan Rubin called The Makers Diet about his personal story and struggles with nutrition after suddenly developing Crones Disease. He got down to 104 pounds when a nutritionist revealed to him that the proper diet could be found in the bible. I learned that with my condition I needed protein to gain weight instead fats and carbs that everyone was trying to fill me up on. Jordan taught me that Faith is a Place in the future where we can go if we trust in God and give Him our best efforts in this life.
If we are not willing to stand in this place of faith we will have nothing left to stand on when troubles come upon us. When we hear the gospel it is to turn us from darkness to the light and free us from the grasp of the enemy. When we choose God we receive the forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Him (Acts 26:18). Faith is a Place of sanctification and wholeness found when we believe in Jesus Christ. Our faith is not based on the wisdom of man; it is a place where we stand in the power of God (1 Corinthians 2:5). We need to be on guard; standing firm in our faith, being strong and courageous (1 Corinthians 16:13). To stand firm in anything there has to be a possible place for us to stand on. Faith is a Place in the future where we receive what we hoped for in the Lord. Faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). A substance is something that exists and evidence is how we prove that it’s real. Abraham by faith, when called to a place he would inherit, obeyed and went, even though he didn’t know where he was going (Hebrews 11:8). Faith in God was all the evidence Abraham needed to chase after a place he would not even receive for himself. Faith is a Place God promised to him and his seed and after hundreds years Joshua took Israel into that place. If Abraham had faith in something he himself would not enter into we should not lose heart. Outwardly we may be wasting away but inwardly we are being renewed every day. Our momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal weight in glory that outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). Faith is a Place where we see what heaven has for us and we stand firm in that place until we receive what we already knew we would.

Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is doing. The best thing God’s done is send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
