Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For his joy he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God. (Hebrews 12:2)
Last week we talked about being cold or hot in our walk with the Lord. He is a consuming fire; His word is hot enough to burn everything out of our lives that might make us grow cold. His word does something inside of us; it makes us want to be better people. When Jesus becomes Lord of our lives we are supposed to strive to be like Him. We don’t do this because He forces us to but because we love Him and trust that He knows what’s best for us. He is the pioneer; meaning He came here first and lived a righteous life to show us what it looks like. He carved out a pattern for us to recreate and repeat exponentially in the life of others. His pattern was perfect and by following Him we will be perfected more and more. The perfecter not only showed us righteous perfection He endured the cross so that even if we sin we could still be perfect in the eyes of God. He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He (Deuteronomy 32:4). We can trust in Him because His works are flawless; He is just and perfectly righteous so if we make Him our savior He will save us. We are instructed to be perfect like the Heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48) Only Jesus, our perfecter can help us do this then our job is to make changes in our lives to be more like Him.
We do this by doing life like He did it and allowing His perfection to perfect us. We can be assured His words are always true, He has perfect knowledge and He is with us (Job 36:4). There is nothing false about the Lord, His law is perfect and refreshing to the soul. All His statutes are trustworthy, making wise the simple (Psalm 19:7). His law is not meant to be a burden but refreshing to the soul; they give wisdom to us to help in our perfecting. When our mind remains steadfast on Him we will be kept in perfect peace because we trust in Him (Isaiah 26:3). Being steadfast fast means we are doing our very best to completely rely on God to be everything we need. If we would fully do this we would better become perfect. Jesus tells us to go, sell all our possessions and give to the poor so we will have treasure in heaven. Then we can follow Him (Matthew 19:21). That is being steadfast; everything we own is nothing but filthy rags if it keeps us from diligently following the Lord. Giving to those who have very little brings us treasure that matters for all of eternity. Nothing should be greater than God in our lives and anything that is will greatly hinder the work of perfection in our lives. We cannot conform to the pattern of the world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Then we will be able to test and approve what is the perfect pleasing will of God in our lives (Romans 12:2). To be perfected we cannot do things like the world does them anymore. We have to throw away our old thought patterns along with the possessions we have that keep us away from God. The perfecter can only perfect us to the extent that we allow perfection to come into our lives. This cannot be done without us being willing to work at it and do our small part so we can be in the perfect will of God; so we can be good and pleasing to Him. Only In Jesus do we find perfection in righteousness with God. Because He took our sins He can be our perfecter. He did most of it for us but we must be willing to strive for it also. Our focus must be the Lord and not on the things of this world that make us anything but perfect in the eyes of God.
Tuesdays Torch has an official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com Daily Sparks and Scripture Pictures are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several will be looking for future speaking engagements soon. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus their Savior; send a message to: email@example.com and we will pray together. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email, on Facebook as Tuesdays Torch or Twitter @tuesdaystorch Thanks and God Bless!
