I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that. (1 Corinthians 7:7)
Last week we learned that God is there for us and there are many benefits we receive when we fill ourselves up with Him. If He was willing to give us His son then He can do all things for us. God gives gifts to us when we make Jesus our savior and some get one gift while others get another gift from Him. While preparing for this message I got to thinking about the gifts of God in my life. There are obviously some spiritual gifts or I could not be inspired to write this study every week. It’s all Him folks; He gets all the credit. I am not only talking about gifts of the Spirit though there are gifts we get just because He loves us and wants us to feel useful and complete. In Proverbs we read that when a man finds a wife he finds a good thing and receives favor from the Lord (Proverbs 18:22). In April I found my good thing and she is a great gift from the Lord. With her I feel more favor from the Lord then any time previously. We got engaged, planned a wedding, fixed up a house, had a wedding, traveled to each other for three months, sold the house, found a new house, moved into storage, had temporary housing and finally moved in together. We accomplished all that in about eight months and me or my wife cannot drive, pack boxes or move them on our own. It took a small army and a few miracles to accomplish but all of it happened with very little opposition. When God gives us wealth, possessions, the ability to enjoy our life and to be happy in our toil; it is a gift from God (Ecclesiastes 5:19). Whatever it is we get that seems like it is too good to be true is quite possibly a gift from God.
Every good and perfect Gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, He does not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17). Every good thing we receive, we have because God blessed us with it. His nature is to do good because He loves us and does not change His mind like us. Still, even we who are evil know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more our Father in heaven will give good gifts when we ask for them (Matthew 7:11)! God is ready and willing to give good gifts to us; the only stipulation He gives us is that we ask for it. Now keep in mind He cannot give us what is not His will to give. He will not do anything that comes close to being evil to ourselves or others. But what is good and perfect comes from Him. There are many gifts that come from God and all of them are distributed by His Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4). The greatest gift God gave us none of us deserve; the wages of sin is death but the gift from God is eternal life in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins (Romans 6:23). Every one of us must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to be forgiven and receive the second greatest gift from God, the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). The Spirit distributes the gifts of God but it also is in us so we can use and receive those gifts. Wealth, possessions, joy, hard work and a wife are all great gifts from the Lord when we seek Him in receiving them. Children are also a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is our reward (Psalm 127:3). The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Those who hear and are thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life (Revelation 22:17). Life is among the greatest of gifts we get from God and in Jesus life is extended to an eternity. We all have gifts from God that benefit us greatly; we may not always recognize them as such but if we will open our eyes to them, they cannot be missed.

We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus their Savior; send a message to: email@example.com and we will pray together. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email, on Facebook as Tuesdays Torch or Twitter @tuesdaystorch Thanks and God Bless!
