Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright. (Proverbs 14:9)
Last week we learned how the Lord leads us and if we follow Him we will be on the path that was prepared for us. His way is the way of peace and is refreshing to our souls. Over the weekend my wife and I had our friends come to the house to help us make a few changes to our house. They helped us put up a ceiling fan, clean up the yard and extend our front patio so we could better facilitate it. We are making several more changes to the house in the next few weeks and months but they got us off to a good start. This process of remodeling the house got me thinking about the changes we have to make when Jesus becomes Lord in our lives. When we make amends for sin fools mock us who are living according to the world and its ways. However those who are upright and living for the Lord find goodwill when they change their ways. It is sensible to be wise and give thought to all our ways but deception is a fool’s folly (Proverbs 14:8) Fools think that changing our ways to serve a God we cannot see is foolishness but in reality we know the opposite is true. There is great wisdom and it is well with those who trust in the Lord. There is no one like the wise or those who know the explanation of things; wisdom brightens the face of people and changes their hard appearance (Ecclesiastes 8:1). Knowledge truly is power and that makes us feel good and secure about ourselves. God has all wisdom so when we make changes according to His wisdom we are making amends for our former appearance and goodwill is evident on the face of those who are among the upright.
We must be willing to change our ways by justly dealing with others, not oppressing the foreigner, fatherless or widow, by not shedding innocent blood and not by serving anything as a god in our lives that is not God the creator of the universe. If we do these things we will be open to receiving whatever has been promised to us by the Lord (Jeremiah 7:5-7). Jesus tells us that unless we change and become like little children, we will never enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18:3). What are the ways of children? They are simple, naive, have an imagination, innocent, and have dreams, goals and blind faith in what they know to be the truth. We can only change and become this way when we submit to God and trust Him to do the work in us that we cannot do on our own. We can no longer be conformed to the pattern of the world but be transformed by renewing our minds to what Gods good, pleasing and perfect will is for our lives (Romans 12:2). We must learn to submit to God, resist the temptation of the devil and he will flee from us. Also we must draw near to the Lord and he will come near to us. We must wash our hands and purify our hearts in Him to be free from the burden of sin. By changing our foolishness into humble submission to the Lord, He will lift us up (James 4:7-10). There is a mystery: We will not all sleep, but will all be changed in a flash and in the twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet. At the trumpet the dead will be raised imperishable and we will be changed (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)! We are already citizens of heaven so we eagerly wait for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who by the power that put all things into subjection to Him, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body (Philippians 3:20-21). Changes whether they are to our house or to ourselves are meant to be an improvement to what was already there. That is what our friend Jesus does for us when we make Him the Lord of our lives.
Tuesdays Torch has an official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com Daily Sparks and Scripture Pictures are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several will be looking for future speaking engagements soon. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus their Savior; send a message to: firstname.lastname@example.org and we will pray together. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email, on Facebook as Tuesdays Torch or Twitter @tuesdaystorch Thanks and God Bless!
