An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins. (Proverbs 29:22)
Last week we learned about interpretation of scripture and the mistakes we often make when interpreting it. Often times we do this to make excuses for the sins that try to entangle us or to challenge God’s sovereignty. Last night I was doing a crossword puzzle while trying to figure out what to write. The clue said something about the lack of harmony between musical notes; the answer was discord. Discord can also be a disagreement between people or a lack of harmony between people. An angry person stirs up conflict; when we are hot-tempered it causes us to commit many sins. A troublemaker is a person who speaks corruption everywhere they go, who winks maliciously, stomp their feet and use angry hand gestures. They plot evil and deceit in their hearts and always cause discord with others. Disaster will come to them instantly; suddenly they will be destroyed without any way of fixing it (Proverbs 6:12-15). No one likes a trouble maker who tries to stir up issues. They talk bad about others and gossip; they’re loud mouths and think they have all the answers. Their anger causes them to be involved in many sins and they are never happy for others because they are unhappy with their lives. Hated causes discord but love can cover it all (Proverbs 10:12). Love restores the harmony between two people, it ends their disagreement. Discord cannot be caused because love destroys hate. It is the exact opposite of everything that love is. Love is not easily angered, it always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres. Love never fails so where love is discord could never be.
There are six things that the Lord cannot stand, even seven that are detestable to Him. He cannot stand haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community (Proverbs 6:16-19). The first six items on this list are all extremely evil but number seven can stand alone because it is made up of all the others. Discord can lead us to do any number on this list. It is made up of lies, evil schemes, rushing to do wrong, falsehoods and may lead to bloodshed. Paul in his second letter to the Corinthians was afraid he would not find them as he wanted them to be and that he wouldn’t be what they wanted either. He was afraid there may be discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder among them (2 Corinthians 12:20). He was afraid first because of the discord it may cause by going to see them. Again discord can be caused by or made up of any of these sinful acts listed in the above scripture. What causes discord or feuding among us and how do conflicts rise up among us? Do they not come from the desires of our flesh that are warring among our members (James 4:1)? The acts of the flesh are sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and likewise. However the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against these there is no law and with them there’s no discord (Galatians 5:19-23). There’s no division in the body, each of us should have equal concern for each other (1 Corinthians 12:25). Discord has no place in the body of Christ instead we must learn to love so we can destroy hate and every other act of unrighteous.

Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus their Savior send a message to: firstname.lastname@example.org and we will pray together. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email, on Facebook as Tuesdays Torch or Twitter @tuesdaystorch Thanks and God Bless!
No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
