To the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, (Hebrews 12:23)
Last week we learned that God says to follow “my word” and He will lead us down the right path. His words don’t pass away and when we follow them we will receive our eternal life. Those of us who follow Him belong to the church that He set up for us to be part of. At the place where I have church, Morningstar Ministries we spent some time learning how to grow closer as a body of believers. Our pastor Rick Joyner has been talking to us a lot about the main Greek word used to say the church in scripture is Koinonia it is the common union of believers joined together as one in Jesus Christ. Ekklesia is another word for church but this is talking more about the structure and government in the church. All the other words are also not about a place of meeting but a group of people gathered together and how they should do it. I remember a saying with hand signals I used to say as a child that my grandfather taught me. You interlock both hands with your pinky, ring and middle fingers pointing downward between your palms and pointer fingers touching each other and pointing upward. The saying is, “Here is the church and here is the steeple.” Then you keep your fingers interlocked and turn the hands upside down and continue saying, “open the door and see all the people.” The fingers not only are the church building but they are also the people inside the building. To me this is saying the building is not built out of bricks and mortar but it is made of the people who occupy that building. If Jesus is our Lord and Savior then we belong to the church that He set up for us to be part of.
Never was the church meant to be a building we go to on Sunday to sing songs and listen to someone speak. The church is the people sometimes set up in a structure where everyone plays a role for the common good of the whole. When Barnabas found Saul he brought him to Antioch and they stayed for a year to meet with the church and to teach many people. This is when believers were first called Christians (Acts 11:25-26). The church was many people it never once was explained as a building. When Peter was in prison the church earnestly kept him in prayer (Acts 12:5) Church facilities cannot pray for Peter, people pray for other people. Overseers of the church must keep watch over their flocks that the Holy Spirit called them to. They must be shepherds of the church, which Jesus bought with His blood (Acts 20:28). God has given to each person in the church gifts of the spirit to minister. Some gifts are considered first to keep order in the church but every gift is needed and equally important (1 Corinthians 12:28). The church building is not given these gifts the people get the gifts to use everywhere they may go. We are to show others in the church proof of our pride we have in Christ by how we love others so they see the church we belong to is in us (2 Corinthians 8:24). Buildings cannot see people and decide if we belong with them or not. Paul wrote instructions so that if he was delayed in coming Timothy would know how people should conduct themselves in Gods household, the church, the pillar of righteousness and truth (1 Timothy 3:14-15). Places where we go to worship cannot be told to do anything but we as people can so again for the church to receive instruction the people must be the ones to receive it. If we believe in Him and make Jesus our Lord we are in the church of the first born; our names are written in heaven. We will come to the Judge of all in the perfect spirit of righteousness if we are part of the church he set up for us.
Tuesdays Torch has an official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com Daily Sparks and Scripture Pictures are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several will be looking for future speaking engagements soon. We pray the words of every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please share Tuesdays Torch and encourage others with it. Recently we partnered with leisurelane.wordpress.com please check it out and send them some love. Any ministries or blogs that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus their Savior send a message to: firstname.lastname@example.org and we will pray together. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email, on Facebook as Tuesdays Torch or Twitter @tuesdaystorch Thanks and God Bless!
