Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. (2 Corinthians 3:17)
I’d like to say thanks to my friend Bobby for writing the torch last week while I was on my honeymoon. He wrote about blind Bartimaeus calling out to Jesus even when the crowd tried to shut him up. When Jesus healed him He told him to go thy way; Bartimaeus could have went and seen everything he couldn’t see but instead it says immediately he followed Jesus. Would we do the same if God granted us our desires? Christ told him to go his way because he had the right to choose for himself what to do. Christ would not have been mad at him if he didn’t immediately follow Him but after experiencing the power of God he used his liberty to follow Jesus. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty and it is the state of being free. Christ granted us this freedom so we could choose to do what we want to do. Even though He loves us all; some of us will go our own way and do what we want to do. When we use our freedom to follow his instructions we will truly have liberty because we are doing what the Spirit would have us doing (Psalm 119:45). Where His Spirit is, is where true freedom can be found. Ten days ago I married the love of my life because she is the one I want to be with. I have the liberty to be a good or a not so good spouse as all married people get to do. Good spouses have a good marriage with fewer problems because they treat their significant other the way that they should. If we are angry, selfish or jealous all the time we will probably end up in the court room or in constant stress. Freedom isn’t always easy but done the right way we can enjoy its fruit.
We have been called to the liberty we find in Jesus Christ; not so we would use our freedom to satisfy the flesh but so that in love we’d serve each other. All the law is fulfilled in love so we should love our neighbor like we love ourselves (Galatians 5:13-14). We must stand strong in the liberty which Christ has given to us and not be entangled again in the bondage of sin (Galatians 5:1). If we only hear the word but don’t do it we are like a man who looks in a mirror and goes away and forgets what he looks like. If we look into the perfect law of liberty, continue in it and not forget what we hear but do the work are blessed indeed (James 1:23-25). It is the will of God that in doing good we put to silence the ignorance of foolish men. As free we should not use our liberty as a cloak for malicious behavior but to be servants of God (1 Peter 2:15-16). Liberty is a great thing but many times it is misused even by Christians who should know how to act. We must be careful not to let our freedom be a stumbling block to the weak (1 Corinthians 8:9). We cause others to stumble when we miss behave and do things that the weak might be lead astray to do. Sometimes now a day you can stand a Christian and non-Christian side by side and observe their lives and you will see no difference. When the world sees a Christian not acting like a Christian it is a bad witness to the Lord. Why would they want to change when they see no change? Sometimes we even use our beliefs as a stumbling block when we judge others and don’t offer them the freedom Christ offered us. It is the Holy Spirit who calls men to repent it is our job to live our life like we know Christ and to share His love by serving others. Christ is our example, He taught us righteous living with His life so we teach others with our doing good. Christ freed us all so we should offer freedom to others so they want to choose Him and because they see His benefit in us who used our liberty to choose Him.
Tuesdays Torch has an official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com Daily Sparks and Scripture Pictures are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several will be looking for future speaking engagements soon. We pray the words of every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please share Tuesdays Torch and encourage others with it. Recently we partnered with leisurelane.wordpress.com please check it out and send them some love. Any ministries or blogs that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus their Savior send a message to: email@example.com and we will pray together. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email, on Facebook as Tuesdays Torch or Twitter @tuesdaystorch Thanks and God Bless!
