The people of Judah have done evil in my eyes, declares the Lord. They have set up their detestable idols in the house that bears my Name and have defiled it.
Last week we discussed a revelation I had concerning the book of life; possibly all our names are already in there hoping we will not be removed before final editing. The people of Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord; they set up idols in the Lord’s house and defiled it. This got me thinking, I wonder if we still do this in our churches and with our lives. Our bodies are the temple of God so when we worship anything in our heart more than Him there are idols in His house. When we set up idols in our hearts putting stumbling blocks in our faces and then try hearing from God; He will answer us only in accordance with our idol worship. He does this to recapture our hearts so we will turn away from the idols we left Him for. He tells us, His people to repent from worshipping idols and renounce our wicked practices (Ezekiel 14:4-6). This message is to believers who worship idols even so much that they honor them in God’s house. Our idols may not be golden images they are more subtle then that. People worship programs, positions, preachers, socializing, cool new music, buildings and relationships more than God. Often at church we are so distracted with stuff we forget that church is not about what we get from God as what we give to Him. We are there to worship God but when distractions in our heart are more prevalent than spending time with Him we are worshipping our favorite church idols.
There can be no agreement between the temple of God and idols. We are the temple of God; He dwells with us and walks among us, He is our God and we are His people. Therefore we must separate ourselves from the flesh, touch nothing unclean and the Lord will receive us. He will be our Father making us sons and daughters of Almighty God (2 Corinthians 6:16-18). If we are the temple we will separate ourselves from idols especially at church and other times we spend with Him. In the blog The heresy of worshiptainment written by Mike Livingstone he quotes this question. David Platt asked: “What if we take away the cool music and the cushioned chairs? What if the screens are gone and the stage is no longer decorated? What if the air conditioning is off and the comforts are removed? Would His Word still be enough for his people to come together?” Is He the real reason we gather together? He created all things in heaven, on earth, visible and invisible, thrones, powers or authorities; everything was created by Him and for Him. He is before all things and holds it all together. He is head of the body, His church; He is the beginning and first born from among the dead, so in all things He may have supremacy (Colossians 1:16-18). Christ came not to bring peace but a sword. He set man against members their own family and made his enemies members of his household. If we love even father or mother, son or daughter more than Him we are unworthy of Him. We must lose our old life for Him to find a new life in Him (Matthew 10:34-39). Even our own life we must forsake or we cannot be His disciples (Luke 14:26). Jesus told the crowd that if we want to be His disciple we must deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him (Mark 8:34). Do we worship idols of self or family, have we set up church idols that we worship more than God? If so repent and make it right with God, renounce the idols and worship only Him.
Tuesdays Torch has an official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com Daily Sparks and Scripture Pictures are further spreading the message of Christ. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus their Savior send a message to: firstname.lastname@example.org and we will pray together. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email, on Facebook as Tuesdays Torch or Twitter @tuesdaystorch Thanks and God Bless!
