Psalm 50:23

Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation.

Last week we learned about fasting, why we fast, how long we fast and how it brings breakthrough into our lives. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is looking forward to a blessed New Year. Many ministries encourage people to give year end offerings and some people do this to get tax breaks. Giving tithes and offerings is important; it pays for the ministry needs and to do the work of the Lord. Tithes are the ten percent given to the ministry we most are affiliated with. Offerings are what we give above and beyond our tithes to sow into other ministries and to show our appreciation for their work. The Israelites had offerings for many reasons and offered up different valuables for certain occasions. They had grain, drink and burnt offerings for Sabbaths, New Moon, feasts and appointed festivals. Old Testament Jews gave fellowship, thank, holy and sin offerings to make atonement for Israel and do service in the house of God (Nehemiah 10:33). We give thank offerings to honor God and the blameless He shows His salvation to. Thank offerings therefore must make us blameless to the Lord. Another offering given many times in Israel were freewill offerings so anyone who wanted to could give for a specific need in Israel (Exodus 35:29). One offering the people gave for the building of the tabernacle included giving precious metals, gem stones, animal skins, scarlet threads, animals for sacrifices, acacia wood, olive oil and fine spices for anointing and fragrant incense (Exodus 25:2-7). Most offerings today are freewill offerings of money, time, assets or other valuables that often benefit missionaries, speakers or other ministries. We are to give offerings as our heart prompts us to give to the Lord and His workers.

These freewill offerings are many times thank offerings to honor God; to be blameless and receive our salvation. Old school burnt offerings were no longer pleasing to God when Israel became corrupt and worshiped other gods. When Jesus came He came to refine men’s hearts like silver and gold to make us clean like priests. Then we can be men and women of God who bring offerings to Him in righteousness and they will be acceptable to Him as they were when God first asked for offerings (Malachi 3:3-4). Why would we rob God? Yet we do it anyways. We rob Him when we don’t give our tithes and offerings as we are prompted to give them. Robbing God brings the curse on people and nations who will not give them. We are to pay our full tithe to the Lord and there will be food in our house. God tells us to test Him in our giving and see if He will not open the floodgates of heaven and give us such a blessing that we cannot contain it. He will prevent pests from destroying our crops and our fruit will not fall from the tree before it’s fully ripe (Malachi 3:8-11). Jesus one day sat across from the place offerings were put and watched the crowds putting money in the temple treasury. The rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow threw in two copper coins only worth a couple cents. Jesus told His disciples that the poor widow put more money into the treasury than anyone else. They gave a small percentage of their wealth; out of her poverty, the widow gave all she had to live off of (Mark 12:41-44). God loves a cheerful giver not because we feel obligated to give (2 Corinthians 9:7). The widow gave all she had I wonder if we did this with our offerings how blessed our lives might be.

Tuesdays Torch has an official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com The Daily Spark and Scripture Pictures are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several speaking engagements lined up for the future. We pray the words of every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please share Tuesdays Torch and encourage others with it. Recently we partnered with leisurelane.wordpress.com please check it out and send them some love. Any ministries or blogs that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God has ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus Christ their Savior send a message to: tuesdaystorch@gmail.com and we will pray together. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email, on Facebook as Tuesdays Torch or Twitter @tuesdaystorch Thanks and God Bless!

No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
