Tuesdays Torch week 310

Tuesday’s Torch

By: Tim Sader

Acts 22:16

And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.

Last week we talked about the word yield and how we apply yielding to our spiritual walk with God and the harvest we produce. One thing we do as believers to further yield to God is through baptism. When we are baptized it is a symbol of us washing away our sins; when we rise out of the water our slate is clean. If we haven’t been baptized what are we waiting for? We need to get up and do it so we can be sure our sins are washed away so we can have more confidence in our salvation when confronting God. When I was a baby I was baptized and have been saved since I was four years old. I’m not real sure if I was baptized at that time with submersion or not they did baptisms yearly at my church so it’s a good possibility but I don’t remember. It probably wouldn’t hurt me to do it again as an adult and one day I may. It seems like one of those extremely difficult things for me with my disability and my reluctance to be in deep water. I’m not making excuses but my life has been fully submerged in Christ and I’ve received the Holy Spirit so I am confident in my faith. In a way this message about baptism is to me as much as it to everyone reading it. This is an important part of our Christianity; I wouldn’t recommend anyone putting it off like I have until doing so would cause me difficulties. We should not wait to be baptized once we are saved; it better confirms our new life we now live. There’s no good reason for us to put it off; we need to get it planned and get it done as soon as possible.

When John the Baptist came on the scene he preached baptism for repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Many people in the area came out to confess their sins and be baptized in the Jordan River (Mark 1:4-5). John told the people who thought he was the Messiah that he baptized with water but the one coming would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire (Luke 3:16). The one coming was Jesus and even He went to be baptized by John who didn’t even feel worthy to untie His sandal. If Jesus thought being baptized was so important to allow another man who was born into sin to baptize Him it might be a good idea if we do it to. After Christ had ascended into heaven Peter preached repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). When we are baptized it is symbolic of us being buried with Christ in His death; just as He died and raised again through Gods glory, we live a new life in Him (Acts 22:16). By faith in Christ Jesus we are children of God, when we are baptized in Christ we are clothed with Him. There are no differences because of race, working class or sex because we are one in Him (Galatians 3:26-28). Baptism in water symbolizes our salvation not the removal of dirt from the body but as a pledge of a clear conscience toward God. We are saved by the resurrection of Jesus Christ and now He rules in the heavenlies (1 Peter 3:21-22). When we come out of that water we no longer live for us in the flesh; we put on the uniform of Christ and live like he showed us to. We do this because when we are saved and baptized the Holy Spirit will come to comfort us and teach us how to live like Him. So now what are we waiting for? We need to be baptized if we haven’t to be sure our sins are washed away and be confident in the faith we have received.

Tuesdays Torch has an official website The Daily Spark and Scripture Pictures are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several speaking engagements lined up for the future. We pray the words of every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please share Tuesdays Torch and encourage others with it. Recently we partnered with please check it out and send them some love. Any ministries or blogs that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God has ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus Christ their Savior send a message to: and we will pray together. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email, on Facebook as Tuesdays Torch or Twitter @tuesdaystorch Thanks and God Bless!

No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
