Tuesdays Torch week 294

Tuesday’s Torch

By: Tim Sader

Nahum 1:13

Now I will break their yoke from your neck and tear your shackles away.

In the dream I had about the angel holding numbers the one I chose was 3341. In Hebrew that number is the word yatsath it means to kindle burn or set on fire. The Lord wants us to set on fire our hearts toward Him. When I sent last Tuesdays Torch out I was in the middle of some of the best 9 life changing days of my life. Two Thursdays ago I surprised my girlfriend in her home town at a coffee shop when I proposed to her. Was a big surprise to her and easily one of the best days both of us have had in a long time. After a few days rest from a much too short engagement trip I went with my mother to a Joni and Friends Family Retreat in Flat Rock, NC at Bonclarken Camp. Those who don’t know about Joni and Friends should look into it; she is a quadriplegic who does great things for disabled people around the world. This family retreat is for disabled people and the family members who provide care for them. At this camp people grow closer to the Lord both as individuals and as families by participating in small group discussions and corporate worship meetings. Between meetings and evening festivities there were completely accessible to everyone activates some of which are normally impossible for the disabled. These activities included a 50 foot tall climbing wall, zip line, paintball, paddle boats and horseback riding. Many disabilities participated some were blind, autistic, physically or mentally challenged with a variety of different conditions. On the final night of camp was a talent show and it was amazing considering some of the challenges of the participants. The freedom to express themselves removed the shackles that keep them bound the other 360 days a year.

Most people have shackles that they are forced to or choose to lock themselves into. These shackles are caused by illness, society, religion, preconceived ideas, learned behaviors, lawlessness, embarrassment, anxiety or fear. God can help us remove shackles from our lives and break the yolks that have us bound. He can remove shackles put on us by kings and clothe them with only a loincloth (Job 12:18). When God is on our side kings can’t keep us bond in shackles if He chooses set us free. Even kings can lose their throne if God needs to make us free. The lonely God puts in families and He sets free those who are bound in chains but the rebellious dwell in desolation (Psalm 68:6). God can do nothing to remove our shackles of loneliness or anything else if we rebel and won’t receive Him. Jesus had the authority and was anointed to proclaim good news to the poor, set captives free, restore sight and set the oppressed free. He proclaimed now is the time for the Lord’s favor (Luke 4:18-19). Jesus came to remove shackles that have us bound so we could be made free. Peter was bound in chains for sharing the gospel with people. Society and religion had him bound because Christianity was unpopular and feared in those days. An angel appeared to Peter in the cell and told him to quickly get up. When he got up his chains fell off and he was freed from prison (Acts 12:7). When Paul and Silas had their feet locked in stocks. At midnight they were praying and singing hymns while the other prisoners listened. Suddenly there was an earthquake, it shook open the doors and all the chains came off (Acts 16:25-26). God removes shackles when we are not rebellious, wrongfully bound, through prayer and praising Him even in trials. I learned this at camp when the participants were free to openly share their talent on the last night of camp.

Recently Tuesdays Torch has expanded its reach by building our official website . With the addition of the Daily Spark and Scripture Pictures we are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several other speaking engagements lined up for the near future. We pray the words of this Torch and every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please feel free to forward Tuesdays Torch to encourage others with its message. If there are any churches or ministries that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God has ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus Christ their Savior send a message to: and we will help it happen. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email or find it on Facebook by searching Tuesdays Torch. Thanks and God Bless!

No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
