“A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the LORD Almighty.
Last week we talked about the mountains in our lives some we have to climb, get over, get to the top of or can’t conquer. When we face mountains we need to do it with the Lord and He will help us move it out of the way or take us to the top. God deserves our honor because He is good and loves us enough to make a way to save us from hell. He is the God of gods and if we follow Him, He will be everything we need. We need to honor Him because He is above everything that has been created. He is our healer, protector, provider, covering, helper, our example and our salvation. All he asks is that we believe in Him, trust Him and be obedient to what He wants us to do. Biblically we have one main job as children; to obey our parents so we can live a long healthy life. Parents teach their children what is right and wrong to keep them safe and learn how to be a productive person. Without proper training or when children are defiant it often leads to serious problems with authority and rules for the rest of their lives. Their lives are not as successful as those who honored their parents by being obedient to them. If we honor our fathers and obey those who have authority over us we should do the same for God. Where is the respect that we owe to Him? He deserves the most honor because nothing can happen that He somehow wasn’t involved in. Maybe not directly if it involves evil but He created both so we could choose to honor Him or not. So how can we honor Him?
There are many ways to honor Him and we will cover a few of them today. The first way we can honor Him is what we learned as children. We honor Him by being obedient when he leads us to do things and by following what we already know is right. This will cause us to live a higher quality of life. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit if we have submitted our lives to Him. Our lives are no longer are our own because we been bought by the precious blood of Jesus so we should honor Him with our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We do this by taking care of them, staying active, eating healthy, not doing drugs, alcohol or smoking. We need to resist lust and be self-control to properly honor Him with our bodies. Next we honor God when we believe in His son receiving salvation from our sins. When He becomes our rock and refuge it brings great honor to God (Psalm 62:7). When we walk in what is blameless He withholds nothing from us because we show our trust is in Him. God is a sun and a shield to us bestowing us with honor and favor if we will do what is right (Psalm 84:11). Another way we honor God is with the first fruit of our wealth. When we do this our lives will be filled to overflowing with more than enough of everything we need (Proverbs 3:9-10). God doesn’t need our money He just wants to see if we will trust Him in this small way. The money should be used to bring God glory in whatever way He leads you to give. This might be tithes at church, donations to a good charity, buying food for the poor or helping pay a bill for a neighbor who lost their job. The final way we will discuss to honor God is through our good deeds to others. We honor God when we are willing to help where help is needed (2 Corinthians 8:19). If we honor God we will love Him by our obedience, salvation, with our bodies, trusting Him, with our wealth and by helping others.
Recently Tuesdays Torch has expanded its reach by building our official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com . With the addition of the Daily Spark and Scripture Pictures we are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several other speaking engagements lined up for the near future. We pray the words of this Torch and every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please feel free to forward Tuesdays Torch to encourage others with its message. If there are any churches or ministries that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God has ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus Christ their Savior send a message to: email@example.com and we will help it happen. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email or find it on Facebook by searching Tuesdays Torch. Thanks and God Bless!
