Tuesdays Torch week 284

Tuesday’s Torch

By: Tim Sader

Amos 5:12

For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.

As we learned previously if we have unbelief we should ask God to help us overcome it so His scars will mean something. God knows our sins and how many offenses we have done. In many ways we oppress the innocent, can be bought with a price or step on others depriving them justice to try and better ourselves. We do this because of debaucheries that satisfy the indulgence to do whatever evil feeds our lustful desires. Last week was Pentecost; Christians mistake this day as a Christian celebration because that is when the Holy Spirit was given to man. This is true however its roots are a Jewish it is called Shavu’ot or the Festival of Weeks (Leviticus 23:15-16, 21). This day is to remember when God gave Israel the Torah; it is a harvest festival when the first fruit was brought to the temple. Now it is celebrated by staying up all night and studying the Torah and eating a meal of dairy. Extra attention is given to the passages that have to do with Moses receiving the Law of God. Sometimes the book of Ruth is studied also because it takes place between Passover and Shavu’ot. Christians who celebrate also read about Pentecost (Acts 2). There are many similarities between the day Moses receives the Torah and the Spirit filling the upper room. I got to enjoy a lovely meal of cheeses, crackers, fruit and cheese cake with some awesome women of God while studying the basics of the day when heaven touches the earth on Shavu’ot this year. This day something changed on the earth we went from doing whatever we felt like to knowing what the God of gods considers to be morally acceptable.

On that day when man received Gods law we learned what we shouldn’t do if we belong to Him. The acts of the flesh are obvious because they are against His laws or lead us away from Him. This includes sexual sin, hate, jealousy, idolatry, witchcraft, selfishness, envy, drunkenness and debauchery. If we live to do these things we will not inherent the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21). Debauchery pretty much sums up all the sins we continue to willfully do just to satisfy our lustful desires. Often times debauchery is associated with sexual immortality, drunkenness and orgies but as we know sin breeds sin. Being intoxicated leads to debauchery so we shouldn’t do what causes it. Instead we should be filled with the Spirit that will lead us to do what pleases God (Ephesians 5:18). Before we received Christ into our lives we spent enough time doing what the world says is okay. We were living in debauchery, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and idolatry (1 Peter 4:3). This behavior was expected when we were unbelievers but we have no reason to commit debauchery when we are saved. Unfortunately this is unpopular in our society where drinking is how adults have a good time and sex is encouraged in so many ways. The belief is there’s nothing wrong with two or more consenting adults having sex with each other. This is a great deception; the truth is that sex outside of marriage causes problems that could be avoided by staying pure. If we believe the Lord’s with us we should seek good and He will be. We must hate evil, love goodness, promote justice and God will have mercy on us (Amos 5:14-15). Debauchery is outside of Gods law so we should stay sober and in control then we can follow the Spirit and do what pleases Him.

Recently Tuesdays Torch has expanded its reach by building our official website . With the addition of the Daily Spark and Scripture Pictures we are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several other speaking engagements lined up for the near future. We pray the words of this Torch and every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please feel free to forward Tuesdays Torch to encourage others with its message. If there are any churches or ministries that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God has ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus Christ their Savior send a message to: and we will help it happen. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email or find it on Facebook by searching Tuesdays Torch. Thanks and God Bless!

No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
