The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the Lord. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent.
We should not get puffed up from doing our own thing instead we should submit to God and he will lighten our load. Serving God can be easy because Jesus is our example and He took the burden of sin upon Himself. The easy way can look like the hard way at times since we still have some burden to carry. It will be far easier for eternity on those who took the unpopular easy way of the Lord. By doing what is right we are going the right way and will leave a legacy for future generations. If we bring our worries to God He will give us rest. We can take the lesser yoke by looking to Christ for our example and living according to it. Trusting Him is the lesser burden then hanging on to our worries and sins. His burden teaches us the right way to live. Our burdens and sin is an easy thing for the Lord to deal with. It is better to find peace in the Lord than to toil in everything God can make easy for us. By thinking we can do it all by ourselves we choose our own way. This is mocking God and wisdom will not be found in it; but if we discern the voice of God and follow it we will have the knowledge and it will be easier. If we will follow Christ in righteousness He will lighten the load we have to carry by taking the worry and guilt upon Himself. Being righteous is the hardest easy thing we could ever do. It’s not an easy road to walk in this cruel world because it is separating us from what the world calls everyday life. But righteousness has rewards that cannot be fully measured in this life. When her city was being destroyed one act of righteousness from a prostitute saved her entire family from sure death.
When the Lord shared His plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham bartered with God and finally asked if He’d spare the city for ten righteous (Genesis 18:32). Just ten righteous and God would have spared the life of well over a hundred thousand people. However there were not ten righteous but God allowed Lot and his family a chance to escape because of Abrahams request. Lot and most of his family obeyed the angels and fled except his wife who looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt. Sometimes even past acts of the righteous can be remembered by God to save the future of a city or future generations. Several times after David died God remembered him and saved a remnant so his family line would not be destroyed (2 Kings 19:34). How can we be righteous so we can influence our regions for the Lord? These three simple steps will have us well on our way to doing so. Number one is loving God and remembering His precepts so He will deal with us according to His love (Psalm 119:159). Step two is to guard our lips so we are not speaking evil over ourselves and others. By speaking rashly and not only what is right we bring ruin upon our lives (Proverbs 13:3). All of this law is concluded in Christ so that we can fully be made righteous if only we will believe in Him (Romans 10:4). If we will do these things we are made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. The righteous will inherit the land and it will belong to them forever (Psalm 37:29). By learning to love all the teachings of God and speaking it from our mouths we are part of the way there. Ultimately we are made righteous when we choose to believe in Christ and follow Him. There may not be ten righteous in our City but if we are righteous we will be preserved when destruction comes.
Recently Tuesdays Torch has expanded its reach by building our official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com . With the addition of the Daily Spark and Scripture Pictures we are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several other speaking engagements lined up for the near future. We pray the words of this Torch and every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please feel free to forward Tuesdays Torch to encourage others with its message. If there are any churches or ministries that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God has ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus Christ their Savior send a message to: firstname.lastname@example.org and we will help it happen. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email or find it on Facebook by searching Tuesdays Torch. Thanks and God Bless!
