Tuesdays Torch week 278

Tuesday’s Torch

04/29/14

By: Tim Sader

1 Corinthians 4:16

Therefore I urge you to imitate me.

By choosing to accept Gods free gift of eternal life we are saved from sin and the wrath of God. The wages of sin is death no matter what we must die but how we do this is entirely up to us. Death is always the wage sin pays us. Without God sin was killing us because that is what rules the world. At one time we lived to satisfy our sinful nature that we were born into and we all deserved wrath. Because God loved us He showed us mercy by making us alive in Christ while we were still sinners. The free gift of God is not sins wages; remember that is death. We can stay dead in sin till we die or we can die now to ourselves and be made alive again through Christ. When we were saved our sins were buried with Christ and since He took or sins with Him in death we also are risen up with Him. Our old self has been crucified so we could be set free from it and receive the free gift of eternal life. In Him we are dead to sin and alive again in Christ. God offered us the gift of life when we were dying but to get it we must die to self and sin to live in Him. Our wages from sin were paid to Christ on the Cross. We can live in sin and die or we can die to live again in Christ. Last night after seeing the movie Heaven is For Real, while on the way home I prayed about the Torch today. Right when I was about to say Lord please help me figure out what to write I looked out the window and saw a sign. It was an adopt a highway sign and under it was written Corinthian 416 AME because they adopted that stretch of highway. When I got home I looked up 4:16 in both Corinthians and decided to write about imitating Christ. He wants us to live by the example He set for us to follow when He was here.

If Christ has saved us we are already supposed to live by this example so others can imitate us as we imitate Him. The apostles followed Christ’s example as close as possible and told us to follow their example as they followed Him (1 Corinthians 11:1). We were called to follow the example of Christ. If we are His servant surely we can be no greater than Him so we should do as He showed us to do (John 13:15-16). When the disciples didn’t know how to pray Christ gave them instructions on how to pray and gave the example of the Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:9). As the Father loved Him and how Christ loved us we also are to remain in love. We do this by following His commands as He followed all the commands of God to remain in His love (John 15:9-10). Because Christ suffered we are called to do accordingly to His example by following in His footsteps (1 Peter 2:21). Our leaders who speak the word to us we should remember and consider the outcomes in their lives and imitate that faith. Jesus is the same across the spectrum of time if they are following Him we can do what they do according to the faith (Hebrews 13:7-8). We should not become lazy in our faith but to imitate those who through faith and patience have received what was promised by God (Hebrews 6:12). As Gods chosen people we are dearly loved by God because we follow the path of our example. We are compassionate, kind, humble, gentle and patient. Dealing with each other forgiving one another what has been done onto us as our Lord has forgiven us (Colossians 3:12-13). By example, Christ’s example we are called to live our lives. He showed us how to pray, serve and love. Since He is always the same that is always the way we should be so others will see our faith and know how they should live also.

Recently Tuesdays Torch has expanded its reach by building our official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com . With the addition of the Daily Spark and Scripture Pictures we are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several other speaking engagements lined up for the near future. We pray the words of this Torch and every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please feel free to forward Tuesdays Torch to encourage others with its message. If there are any churches or ministries that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God has ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus Christ their Savior send a message to: tuesdaystorch@gmail.com and we will help it happen. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email or find it on Facebook by searching Tuesdays Torch. Thanks and God Bless!

No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16

Throwback Thursday week 16

Throwback Thursday

Week 16

By: Tim Sader

2 Corinthians 12:9

He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Last week we finished up our two-week study on the fruit of the Spirit. We learned what each of these fruit means and how they all work through faith, hope and most of all love. Most of all when we control our own actions and strive to follow the commandment of love we will bear good fruit and will reap a harvest of good fruit in others. “The faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth (Colossians 1:5-6).” After the gospel starts bearing fruit in our lives and others lives and we truly understand his grace we will see his truth in all things. I believe grace even for me is a tough concept to fully grasp. It is a baud topic and the grace of God functions in so many ways we maybe will never fully understand it in our minds but if we except it in faith and love his truth will be reviled in us. Compared to God man in general is weak and the grace he extends to us is enough even in our weakness it is sufficient to help us through. One day I was listening to a song called Only Grace by Matthew West. This song is a really good explanation of grace and other truths that operate with grace. The first verse of this song says: There is no guilt here, There is no shame, No pointing fingers, There is no blame, What happened yesterday has disappeared, The dirt has washed away, And now it’s clear. The chorus of the song says: There’s only grace, There’s only love, There’s only mercy and believe me it’s enough, Your sins are gone, Without a trace, And there’s nothing left now, There’s only grace. The grace he shows us who believe is all we really need to successfully walk in the truth of his righteousness.

Grace is defined as a state of sanctification by God, and/or the free and unmerited favor or beneficence of God. Another definition mentions a disposition to kindness, compassion and good will. In these three definitions we can start to see exactly what his grace is, why he offers it and a few ways of how it operates. says, “In order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” In scripture we can see these definitions of grace. We see the Lords kindness offered us by the sacrifice Christ made for us. He made us who believe in Christ sanctified by God our Father. Grace is the gift of God, nothing we can do to earn it because it is the free and unmerited favor or beneficence of God (Ephesians 2:7-8). The Lord gives us all kinds of gifts (Romans 12:6). Everyone is blessed with a gift from God and when we begin putting our faith in Him these Gifts begin to manifest. The more time we spend getting to know God and his word the more our faith grows and as we gain faith our gifts grow. The gifts we are blessed with function according to our faith and the more we use them the more our gifts grow and faith increases. A few of these gifts are found in 2 Corinthians 8:7 it says, “Just as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” In grace we have access to all good things God has to offer man and as we use these gifts we excel in grace even more and will want to give it all back to others.

Reaching others with the gospel and grace of God is important and we need to be working on being a example of this and by following the commission Christ has given us. Acts 20:24 says, “I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.” We should always be willing to testify on how God’s grace has touched our lives in doing so others will know of the goodness of God. When reaching out to others we need to be speaking of this free gift of grace the Lord has offered every single person in doing this we will always have the right words to say (Colossians 4:5-6). Like in today’s scripture we can boast on our weakness so Christ’s power and grace can do the work in them. It is by the power of God we are saved and begin the path of holy living. We are freely given this not because we deserve it but because he has given us grace through the cross (2 Timothy 1:9). This grace Christ gave was something he offered from before the beginning of time before man fell Christ already wanted to save him. Just as the Lord was always saving a certain portion of Israel who stayed true to Him we who believe in Christ are the remnant chosen by grace given to us before the beginning of time.

Even as a child Christ had this grace no one could understand because He was from the Father and the Spirit was in Him. At twelve years old His parents left Him in Jerusalem for three days and came back to find Him discussing scripture with people in the temple. He already was reaching out with his message of grace years before his ministry had begun (Luke 2:40). Before Christ we were under the law and the law was not without problems, following it meant much work and self-denial. When Christ came with his grace covering our sins with the sacrifice he made laying down his because of love the law was fulfilled and grace saved us (John 1:14,16-17). The law for the most part was not working man messed it up. We are weak so grace had to be offered for our imperfections. Righteousness could not be gained in the old law so Christ had to die to get us right with God, his sacrifice had a purpose to end the bondage of the law (Galatians 2:21). The law just added more and more lawlessness but the more sin increases the more grace is allowed. Sin reigns in death but the grace of God in Christ has given us eternal life (Romans 5:20-21). Grace does not mean we can do what we want but if we mess up and turn to God it means he will pick up the pieces and lovingly point us in the right direction (Romans 6:15). Grace is even shown to the wicked but if they remain wicked they are still not in right standing with the Lord (Isaiah 26:10). We cannot continue in sin just because grace is given. If we hold on to our worldly things and serve them more then God we are throwing out His grace by choosing our flesh over His grace. If we do this we are making a big mistake (Jonah 2:8). Often we have little things that keep us in sin and we try to say, oh what I’m doing isn’t so bad look at all the good things I do. The law was pretty much rules of morality but just following the important things to feel better about your sin you are in danger of falling from grace (Galatians 5:4).

When we live right and turn to him Romans 5:1-2 says, “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.” When we have faith in Christ we have access to grace and if we stand in that grace we can hope for Gods glory. When His glory shows up we will see proof of His grace. As we experience these signs and wonders and experience grace we hope more in the Lord (Acts 14:3). We all are sinners saved by grace through the sacrifice Christ made on Calvary (Romans 3:23-24). When we chose Christ we can approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us (Hebrews 4:16). When others think we are crazy for believing in God’s grace we can believe Proverbs 3:34. If we are humble and not proud it says God gives grace to humble. As followers of Christ we can have access to all the goodness of God and Spiritual gifts. His grace is sufficient when our flesh lets us down. We can rest assured when we believe in Him that there’s nothing left now, There’s only grace, and that grace is enough to keep us on our path of righteousness.
