John 1: 5
What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out.
As we grow closer and closer to the Lord we should see evidence of Him all around us. We should see Him on the earth, in the earth, under the seas and to the far reaches of the universe. God is everywhere, He is in all things because He spoke, created all things and made them good. In Genesis 1:3, “God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” It goes on to say He saw the light was good and separated the light from darkness. So if in today’s scripture it says Life was Light then we might say darkness is anything but life. 1 John 1:5 says, “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” The world today is very much in darkness, there are so many mysteries of science that only prove God’s creation. Yet man will come up with their own terms and explanations of these phenomena. One day on Yahoo I spotted an article titled “Huge gamma-ray blast spotted in space.” Having limited knowledge on the subject I began reading.
Astronomers believe gamma-ray bursts occur when stars run out of nuclear fuel and collapse. They shine hundreds of times brighter than a typical supernova and about a million-trillion times as bright as earth’s sun. On Thursday as reported in Science Express, the US space agency’s Fermi telescope detected a massive explosion in space; scientists say is the biggest-ever gamma-ray burst. In the picture were many stars a couple small space objects and this massive ball of light many times greater then every star in the picture. This blast produced as much as up to five billion times the energy of visible light. Astrophysicist Frank Reddy of US space agency NASA said, “Visible light has an energy range of between two and three electron volts and these were in the millions to billions of electron volts.” This huge gamma-ray burst occurred 12.2 billion light years away, the sun is eight light minutes from Earth, and Pluto is 12 light hours away. Taking into account this huge distance, scientists worked out that the blast was stronger than 9,000 supernovae — powerful explosions that occur at the end of a star’s lifetime. “Gamma-ray bursts qualify as the biggest explosions since the Big Bang and in the measurements we reported, this is the most intense and the most extreme,” Reddy said. By studying gamma-ray bursts scientists are trying to gain a better understanding of the origins of the early universe, the parts we can’t fully see yet. “Remember: these are single stars that we’re able to see at distances where we can’t even reliably see galaxies. This is our only signal from that far away. In terms of energy, X-rays are more energetic because they penetrate matter. These things don’t stop for anything — they just bore through and that’s why we can see them from enormous distances,” Reddy said.
This light to me is visual confirmation of the light God created and the light God is. I believe science serves its purpose and should be considered as reliable knowledge when based on fact but not to the point of trying to go against the knowledge God gave us in His word. This light I read about reminds me of the light seen by Saul on the road to Damascus. Acts 26:13 says, “right in the middle of the day a blaze of light, light outshining the sun, poured out of the sky on me and my companions.” The light was so bright they fell to the ground probably to shade themselves from the light that was brighter than the sun. Just as this gamma-ray blast was many times brighter than 9,000 exploding stars, which would be far brighter, then our sun. In 1 Timothy 6:15 God says, “He’s the only one death can’t touch, his light is so bright no one can get close. He’s never been seen by human eyes—human eyes can’t take him in!” We serve one powerful God; human eyes cannot see His light even a small portion of His light was far greater then Saul could handle. In Acts 12:7 we read, “And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.” Here we see that a light shined in the prison, it did not stop for anything. The angel in the light of Gods glory woke Peter and made his chains fall off because his light can bore through anything.
Isaiah 60:1 says, “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.” The life giving light of God is his glory shining in our lives. Later in verse 19 it says, “The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” The next verse even goes on to say in the everlasting light your sorrow will end. The light is a symbol of Gods glory and in his glory there is no limit, His glory changes things. In 2 Samuel 22:12,13 David says; talking about the Lord, “He made darkness his canopy around him—the dark rain clouds of the sky. Out of the brightness of his presence bolts of lightning blazed forth.” Also at the transfiguration in Luke 9:29-31 it says, “As Jesus was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.” Again in these passages we see light in context to Gods glory. It changed Christ’s appearance made him bright and out of the glorious light Jesus talked with Moses and Elijah. This light truly has no limits concerning death space or time. PURE LIGHT IS PURE LIFE!
In Proverbs 4:18-19 we see a comparison of light and dark it says, “The ways of right-living people glow with light; the longer they live, the brighter they shine. But the road of wrongdoing gets darker and darker— travelers can’t see a thing; they fall flat on their faces.” If we can fill ourselves with His light it can also be filled with darkness when we let His glory fade out of our life. Jeremiah 13:15 says, “Then I said, Listen. Listen carefully: Don’t stay stuck in your ways! It’s God’s Message we’re dealing with here. Let your lives glow bright before God before he turns out the lights.” The Lord created light and He alone controls where it shines so if we are not living for him and filling ourself with darkness He will have no choice but to turn out the light. Without His glory we have little to no light in us. In our flesh we are far from the glory of God. Isaiah 59:9 says, “We’re a far cry from fair dealing, and we’re not even close to right living. We long for light but sink into darkness, long for brightness but stumble through the night.” We must be careful how we live our lives if we are not consumed by His light darkness still has us in its grasp. Luke 11:35,36 says, “Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.” Even the smallest flame on a candle can light up the room but hide that light and it will quickly become dark again.
As Christians our answer is always Christ be it His sacrifice, love or glory we should always look to Him for the answer. That being said Ephesians 5:8 says, “You groped your way through that murk once, but no longer. You’re out in the open now. The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So no more stumbling around.” If we’ve chosen Christ His light, glory and life is inside of us so we should hold on to it like a blazing torch so we will stumble no more. Isaiah 30:26 says, “Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.” Christ bound up this breach and he is the light brighter than the moon and seven times brighter than the sun. His glory changes things and has redeemed us from our dark and sinful past He has healed our wounds. Every time we see the sun, moon or stars we can be reminded that it is all light and was created by God. There are many mysteries on the Earth in the Universe and beyond. Our human minds cannot even fathom the mysteries of God. Science may have theories on many of these strange occurrences but only God knows how things happen. God created light, I read an article on a massive light in outer space far beyond human reach. This light knows no boundaries and can penetrate all matter just as the light created by God. I see this light in the far reaches of the universe and see one more wonder created by God to show mankind his glory. We should try to live in the light as he is in the light, we should shine like stars in heaven. He is our life and our salvation so we must always walk in His light.
