Tuesdays Torch week 269

Tuesday’s Torch

By: Tim Sader

Jonah 1:15

Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.

We need to always examine our hearts to be sure they are always burning for the Lord. Our faith should be unquenchable because God cares about us and only more of Him will ever satisfy us. While preparing last week’s message I found out that the heart of animals for sin offerings were left in the animal and burned in the fire. Sin is in our hearts and when we come to Christ a fire is ignited to burn in us and it burns out the sin. If we keep the fire burning sin will not get in there and we won’t be able to keep the flame contained; it’ll spread out of our mouth when we speak. His word is fire shut up in our bones if we meditate on it; it will be the burning passion in our heart. We need to thank, praise and stand in awe of God who welcomed us into his Kingdom. By having a burning heart for Him we know He will always be present in our lives. When the disciples didn’t recognize Jesus on the road they realized they should have because their hearts were burning when He spoke of scripture. Our hearts will burn for Him or for whatever we put more into than our relationship with God. From our burning hearts fire should be seen and heard in our words and deeds. We should have burning hearts because God lives there and He wants to burn among us all. To keep this blaze in our hearts sometimes we must go overboard in serving God and doing what is good. If we keep running from what the Lord has destined us to do, a day will come when we must go overboard so we can arrive at the place He originally sent us to.

When storms arise in our lives it maybe to change our direction so we can return to the will of God. Jonah thought he could run from preaching in Nineveh by taking a different ship  but when a storm arouse it was found out he was to blame. The only way to change it was to go overboard and trust God for a new ride to his destination. Each of us at some point will have something to do for God; we can do it the first time or we can run from it until the time comes for it to happen. If we run up until that point storms in life will come and we will have to go overboard for God to get to where He is sending us. Going overboard in certain things is not good but in doing the work of the Lord sometimes it is necessary. When asked to make a offering to contribute to the building of the tabernacle Israel went overboard in their giving until they had to be restrained (Exodus 36:6-7). To go overboard in giving was not necessary in this case but if we give bountifully we will reap in the same way. David knew it would only take one stone to kill Goliath but he collected five instead (1 Samuel 17:40). Going overboard to be prepared for something has far greater value than not having enough of what we need to accomplish our task. When Peter saw Jesus walking on the water he asked that Jesus would bid him to come. Jesus told him to come so Peter had to go overboard and keep his focus on Christ so he would not sink. When he did sink Jesus was there to save him and help him back into the boat (Matthew 14:29-30). Going overboard when going after Jesus is not always easy but if we do He will be there to keep us from sinking. When we run a race there is one prize and often the runner who goes overboard in training runs to win the race (1 Corinthians 9:24). If we want to reap a harvest we will not grow weary in doing what is right (Galatians 6:9). Sometimes we must go overboard to calm the storms in life, reach our destination and/or to win the race we been running.

Recently Tuesdays Torch has expanded its reach by building our official website . With the addition of the Daily Spark and Scripture Pictures we are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several other speaking engagements lined up for the near future. We pray the words of this Torch and every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please feel free to forward Tuesdays Torch to encourage others with its message. If there are any churches or ministries that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God has ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus Christ their Savior send a message to: and we will help it happen. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email or find it on Facebook by searching Tuesdays Torch. Thanks and God Bless!

No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
