Obadiah 1:15

“The day of the Lord is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head.”

After starting off this year with a new beginning we discussed ways for us to remain pure. To the corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure but if we are pure we will only do what keeps us that way. Only one, Christ was completely pure and He helps us achieve it also. We are all corrupt from day one. To be made pure we must do good and turn away from what is wrong. We must avoid silly arguments by saying what needs to be said and walk away from the disagreement. To become an elder a person must follow after what is pure. They must have stable homes, be patient, sober, welcoming, good, disciplined, upright and holy. They must have a strong faith foundation to encourage others and stand up for the gospel. To be pure we must run from evil, chase righteousness, peace, faith, love and pursue the Lord. Where we mess things up grace is there to teach us and mercy to save us through Christ. His purity saved us from corruption and we couldn’t do it without him. The pure trust in God, pursue righteousness, love others and always do what is right. The deeds we do determines what is done onto us. Some say this is karma, power of positive thinking, what goes around comes around or the golden rule. Regardless of what we call it, if our good deeds exceed the bad ones then good will come back around to us. If we are generally good life will generally be good and others will notice.

A day is coming when all the deeds we do will be judged. We don’t have to be caught in the dark or be surprised when that day comes. If we are children of light we should not give ourselves to the dark side by being wicked. Those in the dark are asleep to what is happening. We do not want to be caught sleeping; thinking that day will not come. To stay in the light we must watch over what comes into our hearts and minds (1 Thessalonians 5:4-8). If we take in only what is negative what comes out and what comes out will be negative. The thoughts we store in our heart determines what we say and do. The good do the good in their heart and the evil do the evil in their heart (Luke 6:45). If we are in the light we will shine so others can see our good deeds and glorify God (Matthew 5:16). The Lord can see into our hearts and minds. He knows our motives in everything we do; sometimes we do wrong when we don’t mean to and other times we do what seems right for the wrong reason. God knows all of this, we are judged according to our conduct and according to what is deserved from our deeds (Jeremiah 17:10). Our deeds always find a way to come back on us. It is kind of like a scale and we get whatever side weighs the most. If the negative weighs more we get all that negativity but if we are mostly good we will get back all the good. Jesus was crucified between two thieves who were receiving just punishment for the deed they had done. One of them asked the other if he feared God for persecuting Jesus while they were on the cross. He then said we deserve this punishment for our deeds but Jesus did no wrong (Luke 23:40-41). This to me is an example of what we are speaking about; one thief had evil in his heart, the other had a good heart. Jesus was good and He took our bad deeds on himself. If we believe in Him we are forgiven of our bad deeds. If we are forgiven our slate is clean so let’s do good deeds so goodness will chase after us.

Recently Tuesdays Torch has expanded its reach by building our official website http://www.tuesdaystorch.com . With the addition of the Daily Spark and Scripture Pictures we are further spreading the message of Christ. We have accepted the opportunity for Tuesday’s Torch to be in Redeemed the Magazine for prisoners. The founder and author of Tuesdays Torch Tim Sader, has spoken in church and has several other speaking engagements lined up for the near future. We pray the words of this Torch and every Torch will sink into the hearts and minds of readers. Please feel free to forward Tuesdays Torch to encourage others with its message. If there are any churches or ministries that would like to partner with Tuesdays Torch please let us know. We pray the Lord will touch every reader. All of what Christ did was so we would believe. He told us not to believe because of what He said but in what He did (John 14:11). Every Tuesday we talk a little more about what He did and what He is still doing. The best thing God has ever done was send His Son so we could be saved (John 3:16). If anyone is not a believer we pray they will meet the Lord. If anyone wants to make Jesus Christ their Savior send a message to: tuesdaystorch@gmail.com and we will help it happen. Look out for next Tuesdays Torch on our website, by email or find it on Facebook by searching Tuesdays Torch. Thanks and God Bless!

No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. Luke 8:16
