Luke 10:19

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

Last week we learned what Christ said about the rich man and Lazarus a beggar at his gate and we learned about where our treasure should be.  The rich man had authority over his gate and Lazarus longed for the table scraps that fell from his table but the rich man would not share even a crumb with him.  Because of this attitude and selfish way of living the rich man died and was in Hades but Lazarus went to paradise where he received the treasure he never had on earth.  The rich man then wanted just a drop of water from Lazarus but was not able to get a drink because his treasure was spent in this life and he would not share it so nothing could be shared with Him in death.  Being rich and trusting only in worldly wealth will not save us it is hard for the rich man to sell everything because that is his treasure and he trusts in it.  Storing up treasure in earth is nonsense it will pass away we should use what we are blessed with here to bless others and in doing so we store up treasure in heaven where it can’t be destroyed.  God gave us everything to enjoy including our wealth and there is great joy in helping others so if we do this it pleases God and from Him we receive our treasure.  Our hearts are where our treasure is so if our treasure is with the Lord our hearts should be with Him also and we will share our love with others so that our treasure will remain.  We must do our good deeds while we are living to enjoy this treasure in heaven so with your authority be sure you bless others so forever you will be blessed.

As surely as we store up our treasure for doing good we have been given authority from above through believing in Christ.  In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Christ preached with authority on earth not seen before God has given Him all authority and His name is above all things on earth and in heaven.  This is the authority he has shared with us who believe so that we can go out and minister to others and carry with us the authority to change things.  We must learn the authority we have in Christ if we are going to be part of this end times church so others can see the power of God move and be changed.  To the end of the age and on; Christ has the authority so if we stay in Him we will walk in His authority.  Matthew 10:1 says, “Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.”  The power given to us is power over darkness, over the things that keep us down, causing us hurt and pain.  Christ gave us authority to drive these things out of people so they can be transformed and learn to follow Him.  Evil spirits, demons, sickness and disease have no authority over Christ’s anointed they must submit to Him and His name.  Mark 6:7 says, “Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.”  He sent them out in authority to do the work of bringing nations to the Lord and making disciples of people teaching them about Him.  They went out two by two and took authority over impure spirits to help the people.  There is more power in agreement so getting other people to use their authority with ours means we have even more power over the works of the enemy.

Ephesians 1:18-23 says, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.  That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.  And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”  Here is a prayer prayed for those who believe that we might be enlightened to know the hope of Gods glory we been called into through Christ.  In Him we have the authority and power of God who raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His own right hand.  Now Christ in us has power over all the domain of our enemy His name is higher than every other name so all things must come into submission to Him and through the power in His name.  Christ is head of the church, we should be moving when he says to move and already He sent us and gave us power to do His will.  Colossians 2:9-10 says, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.”  In Christ lives all the power of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all in Him so in Him we are brought into the fullness of God and in Him we have great authority.  Christ is the head and that is where the brain is so this authority we been given should be used to do what the brain would have us do.  He used His authority for loving us and doing good so the authority we have is for showing love and doing good deeds for those lost souls.  Today’s verseLuke 10:19 says, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”  The name of Jesus and the authority we posses in Him is stronger anything living, dead or undead.  In Him we can be made to trample on poisonous creatures and overcome their sting.  All the power of the evil one and his domain has no power over the authority we have in Christ.  Today I pray we would learn to walk in our spiritual authority making the enemy powerless in the land we posses as servants of Christ.  Nothing can harm us if we will take a stand for God and take charge using the power and authority inside of us.

I will be working on transitioning Tuesdays Torch into other written forms as another way of spreading the light into the dark and if you’d enjoy group discussions at my house or church let me know and we’ll start it up.  The church I attend is MorningStar in Fort Mill, SC check them out atwww.morningstarministries.org or by going to www.morningstartv.com where you can watch Friday School of the Spirit at 7pm EST and Sunday at 9 and 11am EST by clicking watch live at the top of the web screen.  Let the words spoken and the messages spread into your area share it with friends, loved ones and local believers to spread revival across the nation and around the world.  Also for those who don’t already forward the torch to others feel free to forward it to everyone on your buddy list, lets reach more people than ever before with its message.  Share it with your churches if you feel lead to. Thanks I pray the Lord will continue touching each of your lives.  All of what Christ did he did so we would believe in who he said he was.  He told us not to take his word for it but to believe in what he did according to the will of his father who showed him what to do.

I pray that this message will sink into your hearts and minds this week and if anyone is not a believer my prayer is they will meet the Lord.  If it’s on your heart to make Jesus Christ your Savior send a message to my email: trippy91@hotmail.com and I will help you do that.

Tuesday’s Torch

Matthew 6:20

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Last week we learned what Christ said about us being neighbors to everyone and told us how to treat them right.  In the story of the good Samaritan two religious men walk right past a man beat up on the road but a despised Samaritan stops to care for him.  Christ says the man who stopped was this man’s neighbor for showing him mercy.  The Samaritan showed that he loved this man like he loved himself and was a better neighbor to him then the religious men were.  The religious want to be seen following the rules of their church and warming their spot on the pew but many will not be a neighbor to anyone that might mess up their safe little world.  If we see someone suffering and we have a way we can help we should not just walk by we should love them like we would want to be loved if we were hurting.  The law of God is love if we will do this we will do good to others and if we cannot we will destroy each other with our hate.  Just like Christ came and loved us we cannot harm our neighbor and still say we love; we must love them like He loved us.  When you love you don’t do things out of obligation you do it from your heart because you truly care and want to build them up.  By love Christ saved us and is in us so we know how to love and if we love like we should we will be the neighbor to everyone so we can all be better.

If we would let someone suffer while we have more than enough not only are we being a bad neighbor we are only storing up wealth we cannot take with us.  In Luke 16:19-25 Jesus says,“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.  At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.  “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.  In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.  So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’  But Abraham replied, “Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.”  This rich man had a gate that represents the authority which he was given and this beggar was longing to eat just the scraps from his table.  Surely the rich man knew Lazarus was there it was his gate and since he was given authority there he had some responsibility to see Lazarus was taken care of.  The rich man had opportunity to use his wealth for something good something that would bring him treasure in heaven but day by day he let Lazarus beg and let him go without.  In death Lazarus was brought to Abraham’s side where he could have what he missed out on during life because he had a need and could not support himself.  The rich man went to Hades not because he had money but because he horded up his treasure on earth while Lazarus was left longing for a bite of leftovers from his table.  He got his reward here on earth but since he would not love and share with others he will experience the longing for a drink from the one he ignored in this life.  In Mark 10:21-22 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”  At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.  It is hard for rich man to enter heaven because in this life their wealth bought them everything they needed so they felt no lack and thought maybe that their money might save them in the end.  When Christ told this rich young man to sell everything he was sad since he had great wealth so this man was trusting in his money more than the wealth of God.  If we store up treasure only in the things of this world then we have received our reward; but if being rich or poor we will use what He’s blessed us with to store up treasure in heaven we will than receive our eternal reward and it never runs out.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 says, “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.  Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.  In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”  Having money or being wealthy is not the problem with being rich the problem is arrogantly putting our hope in money thinking it has the power to save us.  God gives us everything for our enjoyment including wealth but we should be using it also to do good to others and to richly bless by doing good deeds.  Using wealth in this way pleases God that is how the wealth of the wicked is stored up for the righteous because our hope is in the Lord and our treasure is with Him the giver of true life.  Today’s verse Matthew 6:19-21 says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  If we will store up treasure on this firm foundation in the Lord nothing can take that away it cannot be stolen or destroyed if our hope is God and treasure is in heaven.  If our treasure is laid up in heaven with the Lord then our hearts are with Him to and we will do right with the things of this world he’s given us to enjoy.  Another benefit to having our treasure in heaven is that it can’t be taxed like the wealth of this world. Seriously! All he asked is for us to love; He showed me it is the currency of heaven so how much have you loved with what you have here?  The rich man could not go back and chose to love Lazarus by giving to him a hot meal out of his wealth after he had died and went to Hades.  Our good deeds for heavenly rewards must be done on this side of the grave because if our heart is in worldly rewards now is all we get and we’ll be left for eternity wanting what we could have used for helping others.  If your heart belongs to the Lord be sure that your blessings here are used for good and that your treasure is with your heart.

Tuesday’s Torch

08/14/12

Galatians 5:14

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Last week we learned about betrayal, how Christ dealt with it, how we should handle our selves when betrayed comes and how we should keep from being a betrayer.  Jesus was betrayed by one of His closest disciples, Judas was the money handler, his position was important so he didn’t think he could be the one to betray Christ.  None of the disciples thought they would betray Him; one by one they said not me but Christ told Judas he was the one when asked.  Notice it was someone close to Jesus who betrayed Him; someone we’re not close to cannot have the power to hurt us in this way and when betrayal happens the betrayer is usually unaware of it until it’s over.  A betrayer has the best of intentions they feel justified since they are close to you so that intimacy becomes the kiss of their betrayal.  Be wise though do not think all rebuke and correction is betrayal sometimes it hurts the same at first but betrayal brings negative results and correction changes you for the better.  Being betrayed hurts sometimes for a lifetime but we can get over it if we choose to.  Since we know how it hurts hopefully we would never betray someone but some of us will and to feel the guilt of betraying hurts greater than or equally to being betrayed.  Judas felt horrible when he betrayed Jesus he was completely overtaken by guilt to the point of taking his own life when in the end he too might have been saved.  Betrayal these days is on the rise everyone is against everyone else that is a sign of the times and because of this many will turn from the faith and betray the Lord and He knows but will still save us if we ask.  There should be no betrayal among those who have been saved, we are called to love each other and we should not hate enough to betray those we are close to.  The betrayal of Christ had to happen for scripture to be fulfilled to make us believe but just as Christ accepted His betrayer we must accept others and betrayal might come but we must continue to love even if we get hurt.  Betrayal is bad at both ends and if you been a victim to it in anyway give your hurt to the Lord only he can mend a broken heart or soften the heartbreaker.

We often betray who we are close to but as a believer we should love everyone just as God loves us all.  In Luke 10:27-28 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Jesus replied.  “You have answered correctly; Do this and you will live.”  We have been told here to love God and to love our neighbors like we love ourselves.  In the story about the Good Samaritan a man gets robbed and left for dead.  A priest first walks by without helping then another man in the priestly order sees him and doesn’t help either but a Samaritan hated by Jews stops to help him and pay for his care.  In Luke 10:36-37 Jesus asks, “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”  The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” A neighbor is one who has mercy on another the Samaritan saw this man hurting, felt compassion on him and helped him.  The Samaritan was a better neighbor then the supposed to be religious he had mercy on the man so he was the neighbor.  In Mark 12:32-33 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.  To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” The religious are worried about doing what they can to follow all the rules of religion so that they can appear more righteous; they do their part on Sunday to ease their conscience but they will not live what they learned during the week.  If we know helping a man beat up on the side of the road is right but we walk by like they mean nothing because we did our religious duty then we do not love him like ourselves and we are not his neighbor.

Today’s verse Galatians 5:14-15 says, For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”  If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.  The entire law of God is fulfilled in love if we don’t love others we are not being a good neighbor.  If we cannot even get along among ourselves we will devour each other with hate and betrayal it will destroy us if we refuse to love.  Romans 13:10 says, “Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”  Love does not harm to its neighbor so for us to be someone’s neighbor we cannot harm them and will help them if they have been hurt.  Love fulfills the law without it we cannot do anything to please the Lord He loved us so we should love our neighbors.  Romans 15:2 says, “ Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.”  To love them like we should we do not do it out of obligation because the Lord said to, it should out of love toward them because you want to build them up and make them feel good.  We are not good neighbors because we expect anything we are good neighbors if we care enough to love them like Christ loved us.  For Free! James 2:8 says, If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.  If Christ has saved us we should know what love is better than most we cannot be like the priest and walk by the hurting without loving them and doing our part build them up again.  If Christ is in our hearts we know how to love and how it feels to be loved and to be a good neighbor we will leave others feeling good because we truly cared.  If we love like we should we will be doing right if not we should work on being a better neighbor.

Tuesdays Torch week 188

Tuesday’s Torch

08/07/12

By: Tim Sader

Matthew 24:10

At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other.

Last week we learned what Christ said when He washed the disciples’ feet and why it is important for us to have clean feet and walk the right path.  Christ knew His followers they were clean outside and they had a clean Spirit after being there with the Lord.  He cleaned their feet as a symbol so they would know to stay clean and that they would see their master serving them so they would know they should serve to.  To offer guests a way to wash their feet was an expression of hospitality it gave them a chance to refresh after a journey so they could be clean again.  Christ washed their feet for many reasons so they would serve, see the parallels between Him washing their feet as well as their sins and since He was their host they would know He was with them wherever their feet could take them.  Christ walked the path in love so for us to keep clean we to will walk in love and it will keep our filthy path clean.  We must always have our feet cleaned and prepared so we will not be lead off the path of peace if it is our companion we should be staying clean.  If we follow peace and have a pure heart peace will be where we go so if that place deserves peace it will be there if not we should not stay there and take our peace on the road again.  If we are not welcome in peace or they will not hear the message we bring then shake off the dust and keep your feet clean from the filth.  Many of us do not have clean feet because Christ has not yet washed us or we have dirtied our feet again on the path because we have no peace and/or we will not let love keep us clean.  If your feet are not clean submit to Christ let Him wash you, get clean feet and stay on the clean path so you won’t easily get filthy again.

Christ knew they were not all clean because He knew that one of them was going to betray Him and this made that one dirty.  In Mark 14:17-21 When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve.  While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”  They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”  Jesus replied, “It is one of the Twelve, one who dips bread into the bowl with me.  The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”  Most of us have dealt with betrayal in our lives in one way or another some of us have betrayed and others have been betrayed.  Jesus was betrayed by one of His closest and most trusted disciples, Judas handled the money so He was responsible on some level.  All the disciples were close to Jesus because all of them could not believe that they would be the one to do it.  Even Judas I think justified himself believing what He was doing might serve the greater good so Christ could rise up and become King surely he thought Jesus could miraculously escape death.

Matthew 26:25  Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “You have said so.”  The Lord did not hide from Judas the fact that yes, he was the one to betray Him though until that time Judas did not know he was the one betraying the Son.  Notice though Christ was not betrayed by some distant acquaintance but by one that was like a brother to Him.  Those kept at a distant cannot have the power to hurt you it is those closest to you that have the potential to hurt you the most just as you have the power to hurt them also.  Just as Judas did not realize he was going to betray the Lord those who betray you or when we betray we usually do not know we are doing it, or the betrayal seems justified in some way.

Matthew 26:48 says, “Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.”  A betrayer betrays with the best of intentions to fulfill the reason they have justified for doing so and often they are convinced it is the best way for it to happen.  In essence all betrayal happens with a kiss what they have schemed to be harmless due to their intimacy (closeness) with the one betrayed is later the very symbol of their betrayal.  We must be wise also with feeling betrayed because not all opposition is betrayal sometimes correction hurts in similar ways so pray through all things so that on the other side of that situation you learn from it the right lesson.

Being betrayed feels terrible many spend a lifetime trying to get over the hurt of a single instance of betrayal.  Surely we would never betray someone, we are close to Christ and would never do that!  Sorry, but Judas was close to Jesus too; so many of us will know also what it feels like to betray that one close friend or loved one and if you’ve experienced that then you know how bad it feels when you’ve betrayed someone.  Matthew 27:3 says, “When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders.”  When Judas seen that Christ was condemned to death He couldn’t imagine being guilty of betrayal in such a terrible way.  Judas knew who Jesus was probably better than most because he had the most responsibility to His ministry and now he felt the guilt of betraying the Messiah and having Him killed.  I wouldn’t want to be Judas He was seized with remorse it completely overtook him to the point where he had to even betray himself by taking his own life convinced it solved his betrayal.  Today’s verse Matthew 24:10 says, At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other.”  We live in the days where betrayal is on the rise family members turn on each other, lifelong friends go their separate ways, wives are against husbands and even kids hate their parents.  Today the Lord has made himself available for us to sit down at the table with Him and still He knows that some will betray Him and walk away from their faith but until the end they can come back to Him and still be saved.  We should do our best never to betray each other we are called to love even in all this hate so we must accept who God sends and not let what they do bring us to any kind of betrayal.

John 13:19-20 Jesus says, “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am.  Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.”  Christ told them one would betray Him so they would know not to be that one even Judas could have changed his mind if in his mind he knew it was betrayal.  Jesus wanted for them to see that everything written about Him would happen and one of them would make it happen that they would believe the scriptures.  Christ accepted His betrayer from selecting Him as a disciple, He let him become close enough to betray Him and Judas did betray Him.  In life we are surrounded by people who are not Christ and we don’t know from where betrayal might come but we cannot let this stop us from pursuing Godly relationships and loving others.  Sometimes it hurts to love and the pain of betrayal hurts but not nearly as much as if we won’t love each other or if we betray the ones we are closest to.  If you have felt the pain of betrayal from either dishing it out or being hurt by it the Lord can fix your heart it is never to late.  I think even Judas could have repented had He not hung himself and instead turned back to the Lord who could forgive his sins the way he can forgive us or deliver us from our hurting.

I will be working on transitioning this study into both the written format on Tuesday and adding spontaneous group discussions at my house or church if you’d be interested in attending let me know.  The church I attend is MorningStar in Fort Mill, SC you can view meetings by going to www.morningstartv.com where you can register for free then watch Friday School of the Spirit at 7pm EST and Sunday at 9 and 11am EST by clicking watch live at the top of the web screen.
