2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Last week we learned about what Jesus concerning fear and if He is with us than we have nothing to fear. The disciples saw Jesus walking to them on the water but they thought he was a ghost and became afraid. They almost missed experiencing an amazing miracle because they were afraid but the Lord wants us to be courageous so we don’t miss Him when He comes. The disciples also were afraid when they were crossing the sea and there was a storm that Jesus was sleeping through. The men feared they would drown but they woke Jesus and he calmed the storm so if Christ is in the boat with us we should not fear. If we put our faith in Christ and will not fear we are His flock and He will lead us into the rich blessings of the masters kingdom. We have not been given this spirit called fear; if we are in Christ we been given the power, love and a sound mind to overcome our fear. Now we have been given the spirit of adoption because in Christ we are children of God and since he is love the spirit of fear has no power over us. If we have let fear take hold of us then our faith is in question so we must let go of our fears and take hold of Gods love because in it there is no fear. Christ is awake in all of us, He is on the boat telling us to be courageous God loves us He is our Father and fear cannot harm us and together with Him we can calm all lives storms.
We must learn to open up our minds to the Lord so that when he is speaking to us on the road we will know that it is Him before He does what is familiar to us and we miss out on our special time with Him. On the road to Emmaus Simon and another man were walking and the risen Jesus started walking with them even talking to them about scripture and they could not recognize Him until He did what was familiar and broke bread with them. They missed out on an intimate encounter with the Lord because in their mind He was dead and the dead don’t come back when Jesus told them He would be risen after three days but their mind kept them blind to the truth. Luke 24:36-39 says, “While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” Even after everything they had learned about fear and after hearing such good news they were afraid when Christ came to them thinking He was a ghost that couldn’t harm them anyways. Jesus questions why they still let doubt rise up in their minds when they were told the news of His rising and knew that no ghost would be walking with Simon down the road. Their minds just would not believe until they could touch and see His wounds and feel that he had risen again in the flesh. Luke 24:41-47 says, “And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence. He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Even after touching the Lord they were so amazed it was still hard for them to believe so He ate some fish to truly show He is alive. He then showed them in scripture where it was written about Him so they could know and understand He was the Christ and the scriptures proved Him to be true. He opened their minds by revealing Himself to them again in the flesh so that when they took the message to the nations they would have the scripture and testimony that He in deed rose again and through Him all could be forgiven of their sins.
Often times the Lord is walking with us talking like he talks not hiding himself but our mind is on other things so we miss the intimate time with the Lord until we go to church where he is familiar and ask Him to be more real in our lives. Well guess what He walks with you everywhere so open your mind and trust that he is there and he will be more real to you than ever before. Romans 12:2 says, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” We do not have to conform our thinking to how the world sees things our God is a God of limitless possibilities so our mind should be transformed from a mind of flesh into a mind open to what God can do. When we open our minds to the Lord we will understand Him better we will know His will and we will better be able to do what is right and acceptable to Him. Today’s verse 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” If we believe in Christ than we are in Him and He is in us: the old man we once were is passed away and we are made new in Christ. Since all old things become new that means in Christ our minds are being transformed so our thoughts will conformed into thinking the way God would have us think so we can know His will. Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” We have been crucified with Him our flesh and sin was nailed to the cross with Him and it died when His flesh died and now Christ is alive in us. Now where we once lived by the flesh we now live by faith knowing the Son of God laid His life down according to His great love so we could be transformed. We must allow Christ in and know the sacrifice he made in His flesh so that our minds could be open to the truth of who He is and we could be made more like Him.
I will be working on transitioning this study into both the written format on Tuesday and adding a weekly or bi-weekly group discussion at my church if you’d be interested in attending let me know. The church I attend is MorningStar in Fort Mill, SC you can view School of the Spirit meetings by going to www.morningstartv.com and register for free then watch Friday for School of the Spirit at 7pm EST and Sunday at 9 and 11am EST by clicking the watch live tab at the top of the web screen. Let the words spoken and the message spread into your area share it with friends, loved ones and local believers to spread revival across the nation and around the world. Also for those who don’t already forward the torch to others feel free to forward it to everyone on your buddy list, lets reach more people than ever before with its message. Share it with your churches if you feel lead to. Thanks I pray the Lord will continue touching each of your lives. All of what Christ did he did so we would believe in who he said he was. He told us not to take his word for it but to believe in what he did according to the will of his father who showed him what to do.
I pray that this message will sink into your hearts and minds this week and if anyone is not a believer my prayer is they will meet the Lord. If it’s on your heart to make Jesus Christ your Savior send a message to my email: firstname.lastname@example.org and I will help you do that.
Look out for next Tuesdays Torch found on www.myspace.com/trippy91 or sent from email@example.com this study is written by Tim Sader inspired by The Holy Spirit.
