Tuesday’s Torch

Leviticus 2:13

Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.

Last week we learned what Jesus said about who His family is and we learned how to be children of God through Him.  When Jesus’ mother and brothers came to Him while ministering He didn’t run out and greet them He treated them like they were no different than those who were gathered to hear Him speak.  He loved them I’m sure but He loves us all like we are His mother or brothers and if we believe in Him we belong to the family of God.  Those in the crowd He called His mother and brothers because they were doing the will of God by following the Son and everyone who does His will is the family of God.  We can be family if we do His will to and we can do His will by putting His word into practice and doing what it says.  We do His will first by having faith in Christ and living by His example then we must learn to be led by the Spirit of God so we know what He wants us to do.  If we do not want to do Gods will by doing what is right in His sight we are being children of the devil who only is the father of lies.  We are recognized as being children of God by how much we love others because if we do not love we are not His kids.

Others should be able to see and taste our flavor and that flavor should be good so they can enjoy it and want more.  Matthew 5:13 says, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”  Christ says that we are the salt of the earth so those of us who believe are the flavor of God in the earth.  After we come to know Christ He fills us with His flavor but if we stray away from the Lord our saltiness will go away and salt is no good if it loses its flavor.  Just like salt that’s lost its flavor if we lose our saltiness we lose our value we become worthless to flavor the world and are thrown away.  Luke 14:34-35 says, “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?  It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.  Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”  Salt is good so for us to stay salty we must be good by doing the right thing and following Christ.  Salt that is not good is salt that has lost its flavor and once the flavor’s been lost it wont be salty again.  Salt with no flavor does nothing and we cannot flavor the soil of this earth or clean up the crap if we do nothing and become flavorless.  Mark 9:49-50 says, “For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.  Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.”  Salt can be used for cleansing us just like fire it burns away the impurities in metal and heals the blemishes it once had.  For this reason we are sent through the fire and salt so the Lord can remove our impurities and cleanse all our wounds.  Christ was full of salt because He went around doing good so He was already made salty when He became the sacrifice for our sins.  If Christ is in us and we continue doing good then there is salt in us and we will have peace with others because we are spreading His flavor in the earth.

Leviticus 2:13 says, “Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.”  In sacrificing a grain offering it is to be seasoned with salt so it will have the right flavor and be a pleasing aroma to the Lord.  If the salt is left out the covenant is not properly offered to the Lord because the offering has the wrong taste.  We are to add salt to all offerings and though we do not offer grain or flesh what we do offer we should always offer with gladness so that by our good attitude what we offer has the right flavor.  Numbers 18:19 says, “Whatever is set aside from the holy offerings the Israelites present to the LORD I give to you and your sons and daughters as your perpetual share. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the LORD for both you and your offspring.”  Whatever is left from the offering gave by the people was left to sustain the priest that is their share so they could feed their families and continue doing the work of the ministry.  When we give our offerings they are affecting the lives of the ministry and those being ministered to so when we give with a thankful heart our offerings have a good flavor.  When we salt our offerings in this way we form an everlasting covenant between ourselves and the Lord and He will bless our families with His peace for sprinkling salt on what we give.  2 Chronicles 13:5 says, “Don’t you know that the LORD, the God of Israel, has given the kingship of Israel to David and his descendants forever by a covenant of salt?”  We can see this in the Life of David he was a man after Gods own heart so he was already salty and because of the covenant of salt his descendants were blessed forever.  David had good flavor to the Lord and He blessed his family by them being the genealogy of Christ who salted Himself and became our sacrifice.  If we accept His sacrifice we become seasoned by Him and are entered into a covenant of salt through His blood.  We are told to be the salt of the earth by expanding this covenant to all people so they can taste the flavor of the Lord and be made salty to.

I will be working on transitioning this study into both the written format on Tuesday and adding a weekly or bi-weekly group discussion at my church if you’d be interested in attending let me know.  The church I attend is MorningStar in Fort Mill, SC you can view School of the Spirit meetings by going to www.morningstartv.com and register for free then watch Friday for School of the Spirit at 7pm EST and Sunday at 9 and 11am EST by clicking the watch live tab at the top of the web screen.  Let the words spoken and the message spread into your area share it with friends, loved ones and local believers to spread revival across the nation and around the world.  Also for those who don’t already forward the torch to others feel free to forward it to everyone on your buddy list, lets reach more people than ever before with its message.  Share it with your churches if you feel lead to. Thanks I pray the Lord will continue touching each of your lives.  All of what Christ did he did so we would believe in who he said he was.  He told us not to take his word for it but to believe in what he did according to the will of his father who showed him what to do.

I pray that this message will sink into your hearts and minds this week and if anyone is not a believer my prayer is they will meet the Lord.  If it’s on your heart to make Jesus Christ your Savior send a message to my email: trippy91@hotmail.com and I will help you do that.

Tuesday’s Torch

02/21/12

Romans 8:14

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

Last week we learned about the parable of the talents that Christ told so we would learn the lesson from it.  A talent is a large amount of money more than what a common servant would make in 15 years so the amount given by their master was his investment in their abilities.  The servants didn’t want to waste the masters money so they did what they thought was best with the talents.  The servants with five and two talents went out and doubled the master’s money so when he returned he was pleased and praised them and they shared in his joy.   The slave only given one talent feared because he thought the master was a hard man so he buried it and wasted his abilities so he made nothing on his master’s investment.  The slave because he knew the master should not have feared he saw everything he had and knew the master always made money on an investment and wanted to on this servant’s ability to.  God wants to invest Himself into our abilities to so we can bring glory and a wealth of souls into the Kingdom.  When we faithfully use our abilities we make Him glad and we get to share in His joy but if we are lazy and waste our ability we will lose it and it will go to some who was faithful and will use it.  If we lose our ability we become worthless to the master and He must send us away from Him because we would not labor for Him.  Christ worked hard as a man and our savior he earned maybe a talent so let’s not waste the talent He invested in us so our abilities bring Him more glory.

The investment He made in us He made because He loves us and through Him we become children of God.  Mark 3:31-32 says, “Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him.  A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”  Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Jesus where ever he was ministering at and his family sent someone for Him.  Inside where Jesus was a large crowd had gathered but the message was delivered; they told Him that His family was looking for Him.  Christ did not right away run out there and greet them like most people would because they are not only who He considers to be His family.  Mark 3:33-35 says, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.  Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!  Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”  He asked the messenger who His mother and brothers are not because He didn’t know who they were but He seen family in a different way.  He looked around at the crowd and gestured that those in the crowd are also His family because they were there following His teachings because they believed in Him.  Those who were with Him were doing God’s will because God was with them and they were learning from Him.  In Luke 8:21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”  Those who are Christ’s mother, brother or sister are those who hear His word and act on what they hear.  If we believe Christ is who He said He is and do His will then we are His family and children of God.

Today’s verse Romans 8:14 says, “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”  To do what He tells us to do we must learn to be led by the Spirit of God and follow the word of God to be children of God.  We must open up to the Spirit of God if we are children because we must do what the Father is telling us to do.  Galatians 3:26-27 says, “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”  We have been clothed with Christ if we have chosen to live our lives for Him by faith believing He died so we could be siblings with Him.  To be clothed with Christ means that we will live our lives by His example like we put on our newest Jesus suit and in that suit we only act like Him.  If we are clothed in Him we should follow the Spirit and learn to always do the right thing what Gods first son has already done. 1 John 3:10 says, “This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.”  Children of the devil are people who chose not to do what is right, they do not care if they hurt others because they do not love others.  We know who children of God are based on how they act if they go around doing good like Christ then they are acting like children of God.  Mainly His children are recognized by how much they love others if we will show great love others will know we are His kids.

Tuesday’s Torch

Matthew 25:29

For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.

Last week we learned what Christ said concerning what defiles us and what we can do guard ourselves against sin.  What enters into us has no power to corrupt us unless we allow it to enter our hearts and come back out of us as sin in various forms.  We must learn to process what we take in like our bodies process food only taking what it needs to survive and the rest comes out as waste.  Many people are so concerned with what they allow into themselves and yes we can be influenced by these thing but sin comes out of the heart it cannot enter us unless we let it.  We should only store good things in our heart so only good will come out of us or else the evil that defiles us will come out and we will be showing that we are evil.  To keep evil from defiling our hearts we must control our thoughts so only the ones that don’t belong are removed before they get in our heart.  We must watch closely what enters our heart so sin doesn’t get in there and corrupt it.  Out of the heart comes the issues of life so what issues are coming out of yours?  If your issues defile you return to the Lord and receive forgiveness if there is only goodness in there be diligent to keep it there so sin cannot defile you.

To help us stay undefiled we should keep ourselves busy using the resources the Lord has blessed us with to help others and expand His Kingdom.  Matthew 25:14-18 says, “For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.  To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.  Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents.  In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more.  But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.”  To understand this first we must know that a talent is an amount of money equal to about 15 to 20 years of daily wages.  This was more money than these servants would likely see in their lifetime but the master saw their abilities and wanted to make an investment into their future.  They all knew their master and did not want to waste His money so they all did with what they thought was right.  Matthew 25:19-21 says, “Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.  The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’  His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.”  The one with two talents also doubled his talents and the master said well done and gave him praise for being faithful.  The master was pleased with the slaves because they used their abilities to gain more wealth than what the master gave them.  Because these slaves were faithful with what they were given the master will trust them with more and they will share in his joy.

Matthew 25:24-25 says, “And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed.  And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.”  The slave given the least saw that the master had all this land and knew how wealthy he was since it seemed like he received all the profit but didn’t work for it.  He hid the money because the master had so much money and if he lost the money than the master would get mad.  He let his thoughts get the best of him so instead of using his ability to bring the master more wealth he kept the wealth and his abilities did nothing good.  Matthew 25:26-28 says, “But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed.  Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest.  Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.”  The slave knew the master and knew that he invested his wealth into what would bring more wealth to him.  For this same reason he gave his wealth to this slave, he saw the slave had abilities so he invested into the slave so the slave would use his ability to make more wealth.  Matthew 25:29-30 says, “For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.  Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”  We all have abilities that we are born with and the Lord our master sees those abilities and will invest Himself into us if we will use our ability to bring Him glory and spread His message of love.  When we are faithful to use our abilities to bring Him more wealth He will trust us with more and say well done and we will enter into joy with Him.  If we are lazy and will not use our abilities for the Lord those abilities are wasted and the Lord sends His wealth to someone who will use it for Him and they will receive what was meant for you.  When we don’t use what we have we will lose it all we were worthless to the master because we would not use our abilities to glorify Him and we will be cast away if we will not be faithful to use what he blessed us with.  Christ labored hard for us when he was here to earn His talent so lets not bury the talent he gave us to use our ability to spread His love.

Tuesdays Torch week 162

Tuesday’s Torch

02/07/12

By: Tim Sader

Mark 7:20

He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them.

Last week we learned what Christ said about the foundation we build our lives on those who build on Him build on solid rock.  There mainly are only two foundations we can chose to build on we either build on the Lord or we build on everything that is not Him.  Those who do not build on the Lord are foolish builders their foundation is like sand it’ll crumble and wash away.  If we will listen to the Lord and do what he tells us to then we are building our lives on Him and we have a strong foundation.  When we start to build on our foundation we must do it with care so that what we build on it properly represents the Lord and makes the whole building stronger.  We are all pieces being put together to be a holy temple in the Lord with Christ being the chief cornerstone we’re all connected to.  Just as we have built ourselves on the teachings of the apostles we are making our contribution to help build up the body and this holy temple.  We are told to move beyond what we first learned at the foundation building on it so we can mature in our faith and walk with God.  There are no limits when it comes to God so if we make Him our foundation than nothing is impossible and we will be firmly planted in Him.

Making Him our foundation means we follow Him and to do this we must understand the ways we are defiled and lead astray.  In Mark 7:14-16 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this.  Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.”  The things that are on the outside of a person that they put into their bodies or minds are not what corrupts them, these things only can defile if they enter the heart and come back out of us.  What comes out defiles because those are the very things we have allowed be part of us and the only for it to come out is for it to be inside us first.  In Mark 7:17-19 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable.  “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them?  For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)  The things that are outside of us in themselves have no power over us those things cannot defile us by going into us.  What we take into ourselves as food or even what enters our minds can be processed and whatever don’t belong can be expelled as waste.  In Today’s Scripture Mark 7:20-23 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them.  For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder,  adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.  All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”  I am not certain that people slow down enough when they read these words of Christ, I didn’t till preparing this study.  What defiles is never what enters into us and that is what I was not understanding because we see and look on sin all day long and we think by it entering us we have been defiled.  We are only defiled by it if we do not get rid of what is garbage and let it get into our heart and then from the heart we let sin come out.

Luke 6:45 says, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”  If we have stored good things in our heart than good things will come out of us just like when we store evil in our heart that is what we produce.  The evil that defiles us is the sinful acts that we do and the good that proceeds from us is the acts of righteousness that we store up in our hearts.  2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”  To keep our hearts clean and undefiled we must take control of our thoughts so they don’t enter our hearts and become sin.  We must take the evil thoughts captive and let them be removed as waste so that it has no chance to defile us.  Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”  We must learn to guard our hearts and watch what we let into it because if it is against the knowledge of God it doesn’t there.  To diligently keep our heart we watch over and protect it so sin don’t get in.  Out of the heart proceeds the issues of life if you guard it and keep it free from evil or else it will defile you and produce corruption.

I will be working on transitioning this study into both the written format on Tuesday and adding a weekly or bi-weekly group discussion at my church if you’d be interested in attending let me know.  The church I attend is MorningStar in Fort Mill, SC you can view School of the Spirit meetings by going to www.morningstartv.com and register for free then watch Friday for prophetic training and healing ministry tune in at 7pm EST and Sunday at 9 and 11am EST by clicking the watch live tab at the top of the web screen.
